can anyone tell me what owls symbolise? I have always connected with them and notice owl imagery around me regularly. I notiiced one today in a shop and when i went to put flowers on someones grave that was very dear to me the gate of the grave yard had an owl in the design. But it was only when arrived at the grave and there was a bloody great wood carving of an owl there that i thought this is meaningful. Does anyone know anything of this?

Wisdom is the obvious one that comes to mind.
I notice owl imagery around all the time enow. TBH I think they are just having a 'fashion moment'. T

Hello,

In terms of why they are in the graveyard I guess this is because they have been historically associated with predicting death (if you hear one - I do all the time where I live!) but also signifying that there is something more afterwards. This is no more than folklore (owls flying at night and screeching used to sound and look like ghosts or ghouls). So they are seen to be between the worlds, between this one and the next.

If you want to look for meaning for yourself, they are said to signify new beginnings.

Don't know of any Christian symbolism though.

I am sorry to hear of your loss.

xx

I feel that the owls symbolise new beginnings and an encouragment for me to continue my psychic/spiritual development. Have been becoming increasingly aware of my intuitiveness and sensitivity and my tarot reading is becoming much more clear and succint since i got a new deck. I feel the owls are guiding me further on this path.

I found myself welling up at the word owls on the philosophy, religion and spirituality thread.

My Dad loved owls. He was a priest and there was an owl who used to get trapped (it wasn't bright and did it more than once) in the vestry chimney in church when I was a child. Dad had to put his hand up said chimney to rescue it each time.

After that Dad loved owls and we used to buy him various types ornament/cuddly etc.

When he died (at 62) the owls moved in with me. Mum said she didn't want the dust gatherers.

Sorry if I have hijacked - thread struck a nerve.
