What do I say at beginning/emd of Gospel reading?

I should know this, I go to Church most Sundays but have suddenly drawn a blank. I'm reading from Luke so I assume I start with, 'Today's Gospel reading is taken from Luke 12: 13-21' and I end with, 'This is the Word of the Lord'.

Is that right?

I think you say this is the Gospel of the Lord.

Yes and everyone replies "thanks be to God"

There is another saying as well though. Maybe you should check with the vicar

We say "May god bless this reading of his Holy Word" and then everyone says Amen, but I am CoS, so probably different.

I might have a quick word with 'Rev' on Sunday.

At our church (high anglican) for gospel readings we start with
"This is the Gospel of our Lord according to Luke chapter 12 beginning at the 13th verse" (congregation reply "Glory to you, O Lord".)

At the end "This is the Gospel of the Lord." (congregration reply "Praise to you, O Christ")

We have different words for the two "normal" readings that precede the gospel reading (one of which is occasionally from one of the gospels, just to confuse things further )

In our church, we usually say This is the Word of the Lord/ Thanks be to God.

In a Communion service, it will be:
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew/Mark/Luke/John, followed by Glory to You, O Lord. At the end of the reading, it is This is the Gospel of the Lord, then Praise to You, O Christ.

No one has to memorise it though - the words are projected on the screen.

I never say "taken from", because it makes it like it has been isolated from its context. I say "the lesson/gospel/whatever is written in..."
