Exercise (running) during Ramadan - advice?

My SIL has recently taken up running and is doing well (first 5K race under her belt and a 10K planned for the autumn). She plans to fast during Ramadan but also wants to continue running as she doesn't want her fitness levels to slip.

I am neither a runner nor Muslim so don't really have any sensible advice to offer her. DH (a runner and Muslim, albeit not a regularly fasting one) has suggested she gets herself super well-hydrated at iftar and during the night, and avoids weight (or was it resistance?) training. Does anyone here have anything to suggest? Anyone combined fasting with exercise?

I think it will be hard, it is very hot this year and the fasts are long. I would recommend that she fasts a day or two without running so she can see how she copes without it to give herself an idea.

Thank you. What you say makes sense. I hope she agrees!

Can she borrow a treadmill or stationary bike so she can exercise during the darkness hours? At least for the beginning while the fast is super long.

In all seriousness this year the fasts are going to be really long - I think iftari will be something like 8.30pm, by the time you've finished eating, praying etc it will be quite late. The only time I managed to fast and exercise was in winter when the fast broke at 4-5pm. As you had a couple of hours to eat, pray and then go to the gym. I'm going to give exercise a miss and just try and eat less!!!
