can any one recommend a good breeder in or around East Anglia / London?

We are planning on getting one - around September time, but I would like to start looking for a good and trusted KC breeder now, so I know what sort of bitch I'd like to buy.

Shape / colour etc

If you are not planning to show I would try to get the shortest back with the longest legs you can find to reduce the risk of back problems.

Watching with interest.

LaTristesse · 14/07/2010 09:10

I'll ask my MIL, she's always had them and currently has 3. We live just the other side of the river - I think she's travelled to get them though... Hers are reds and utterly lovely.

LaTristesse · 15/07/2010 09:03

I asked and her breeder is in Fareham, Hampshire. If you want the details let me know, or maybe that's too far away...?

Alouiseg · 15/07/2010 20:30

Thank you, just got to persuade dh that a couple of dachsies would be perfect friends for the bulldog.

kid · 15/07/2010 21:10

lol, what are you like Aloiseg!
I would only ever have one dog at a time, but thats due to space. If I had a huge garden, they'd be more dogs than people in my house!

How is your little bulldog?

OnlyWantsOne sounds like a good plan to be looking now so you get to pick and chose what you want.

Alouiseg · 15/07/2010 21:18

My little Bulldog is now a big handsome chap. He is THE most sociable dog I've ever met. He loves all humans, all dogs, all cats........even the pigeons in the garden get a little wiggle from him.

While we're on hols he is staying with my sil who has 3 Cyprus poodles and I have a horrible feeling that he will miss doggy company when he comes home.

So I'm planning ahead but dh thinks that he can only love Rupert

Alouiseg · 15/07/2010 21:20

Kid How's your new pupster getting on??

kid · 15/07/2010 21:26

My new pupster is gorgeous but unfortunately, I have to wait another 5 weeks until I see him again. If we weren't going on holiday, he would have been coming to live with me in just over 1 week. Oh well, he will be worth the wait.

When I talk about him, I am often tempted to put in 'He will never replace Moby' but I am going to stop saying that now as that goes without saying. I always feel that I should always mention Moby to prove that I loved him and still do, even though I know that is daft and I have nothing to prove to anyone!

I am happy Teddy is with his mummy and I hope she is teaching him how to behave! He is being paper trained at the moment which is useful for me. But Moby totally ruined my floor (I never held it against him!) which we were close to replacing when he died so we are going to hold off on the replacing the floor for a while longer.

Alouiseg · 15/07/2010 21:33

I was so sad when I read about Moby, he was the same age as Rupe. I'm glad you're getting a new pup, I would have found another one too in your position. A house is not a home without a dog or 3

kid · 15/07/2010 21:46

I was totally devasted when he died. I never even thought he wouldn't survive so the shock when I received the news just crushed me.

I still cound the weeks since he died, 7 weeks today. As the breeder is getting his injections and mircochip done, I don't have to go to the vets at all. I really didn't want to go there anyway and the new pup will have been seen by the vet 4 times in total by the time I get him!

OnlyWantsOne So sorry for hijacking your post. At least it keeps it near the top in active conversations

GrimmaTheNome · 15/07/2010 21:57

My DD was fantasizing on the way home from school today about getting a mini dachshund puppy. We already have a wonderful black&tan shorthaired standard but as she gets bigger, its a bit of a squash in her bed when there's me reading a story and the dog too (though there is no more perfect cuddling dog than a dachshund of any size on account of having sensible little legs that dont dangle around all over the place)

I don't think we'll really have more than one at a time but its nice to dream - she reckons when she's grown up she'll have one of each coat type in both sizes with various coat colours!

Warning - dachshunds are addictive!

Alouiseg · 15/07/2010 21:59

I'd let a mini dachs sleep on my bed. Dh would have to go

GrimmaTheNome · 15/07/2010 21:59

(the 'she' who is getting bigger being DD, the dog is male and full grown. Not an expanding sausage)

phillippa1 · 20/07/2010 14:05

Hello..
I have a mini long haired Daxi.. I feel I must make you aware some LH's can have an Eye condition called PRA..I didnt know about this when I chose my baby.
We have his eyes checked every 6 months as both his parents have this condition in their bloodlines,The breeder was fully aware of the condition and bred anyway
He is the sweetest thing and I wouldnt be without him but if i'd have known a little more about the condition I maybe would have bided my time.
Totally agree with GrimmatheNome .. they really are addictive!
Hope you find the one your looking for.

GrimmaTheNome · 20/07/2010 21:38

Phillipa, at that breeder - even I knew that there's a genetic test for PRA for minis. The Kennel club has lists of dogs which have been tested and whether they are clear, carrier or affected. Essential reading for anyone planning to get a mini, I'd think.
