I have no idea how much total cover I should be looking at for insurance to cover a cat's vet's fees. DH & I are quite sentimental anyway and with children thrown into the equation I can imagine us wanting to do our best for the cat shoudl it have an accident or become seriously ill. Can anyone offer any advice please?

I would go for as much as you can afford or that looks sensible.

I have cover up to £7000 per year, and that costs me £7.45 per month. My cat does have an ongoing illness, hence why it is a little more.

Shop around, ask your vet and get some recommendations.

My cat is insured with More Than and they have been fantastic. Not a quibble or query.

So here is a listing of recent insurance claims I have submitted for cats:

RTA- pneumomediastinum 10 days in referral centre ITU £4500

Gobal knee injury required two surgeries £3000

Stabilisation of diabetic cat £500 ongoing costs £50 per month for potentially rest of cats life.

Hyperthyroidism radioactive iodine treatment - £3000 or surgery £500 medical (lifetime tablets)or £30 per month. this is the most common claim I submit for cats.

Costs particularly referral costs increase by about 5% per year.
