Toy or miniature poodle

We have been looking for a puppy for our family for over a year and have considered different breeds such as Bichon Frise but have gone of those as are not keen on an all white dog.

So we are now looking at poodles, what apart from the size is the difference between toy and miniature poodles, are they both good with kids and would you recommend them for first time dog owners.

Thanks

As far as I know it is only the size that made the diffence. Ours was a minature poodle. She didnt need much walking, didnt shed hair and for me (a slightly obsessed 5year old) a perfect pet. She let me dress her up in baby clothes and was a very good companion. She was my mom and dads first dog and had a brilliant temperemant. It was only when she was in her final years (she was 18 when she died) that she got cranky-but by that time we were fully gron up.
Do make sure you get it from a reputable seller as there are still dogs being sold that are being shipped in from puppy farms and have all kinds of illnesses. (My auntie had a jack russel that is now the size of a small sheep and has suffered ill health since a pup)

I had a miniature poodle as a child too (she only died recently at age 17) and she was the most wonderful dog. Sweet, cuddly but also frisky and fun. Still miss her!

Are minature poodles less yappy than toy poodles? Everyone I have spoken to about getting a poodle has said they are really yappy, snappy dogs. Any opinions?

would you also consider a standard poodle? They don't yap!
Toys are definitely less yappy than miniatures, and the snappiness is often down to training (or lack of it, or the wrong training, as poodles are sensitive little souls, so I'm told)

Think a standard poodle would be too big, we are looking for a small/medium size dog which is why we are looking at toy or miniature poodles.
