Cat won't come in from the garden...

We got our cat, Poppy, from the rescue centre a year and a half ago. She was a very scared and nervous cat and it took months for her to learn to trust us.
Due to her nature she has become a house cat.
last week we bought a baby gate for the back door so we could let some air in without either the baby or the cat escaping. Tonight she has jumped the gate and is hiding in the garden. She is refusing to come in and runs off if we go near. DH is currently in the garden, with a torch and a laser pen, trying to tempt her in. - She always follows the laser pen!
Since she is a house cat the vet advised us not to bother with worming tablets or flea treatment. I have kept her flea treatment up to date though, just in case, but her worming treatment isn't.

Now for the advice I need:
How do I get her in? (Can't leave door open)
Do I need to give her a worming tablet?
Will she be able to fend for herself???

I'm not really an animal person. I agreed to get Poppy because DH loves cats. In a funny way though I have become to love her and don't want her to be hurt!

Sorry if post rambling, I've had some wine!

she'll be fine, just try not to worry, close the door and go to bed.

she'll be sitting on the doorstep in the morning, none the worse for wear

Did she come in last night? Mine will always come in for ham - not yet realised that me waving a bit of ham out of the back door inevitably leads to at least teeth cleaning, if not a trip to the vet.

I believe the big risk for outdoor cats getting worms is when they hunt, so I wouldn't think a night outside for a timid indoor cat would be a big risk - not unless she's brought you back a little mouse-shaped present this morning.

She finally came back 20 minutes ago. Thanks for the advice!

if she ever gets out again, what I do to lure a cat back inside is put a bowl of food (preferably something very smelly and tempting like tuna or tinned cat food) and hide behind the door. when cat comes in and begins to eat, shut door quickly. of course stillness and silence are vital for outwitting a suspicious cat :D
