Newborn and out of sorts Cat

DD is 6 days old, and since coming home our cat has been ever so out of sorts. He wont eat his meat, only little bits of dry food. He has been spending all his time outside, we litterally have to grab him to get him to come in (normally he is more of an indoor cat). He just seems really 'sketchy' for want of a better word, really very 'jittery'. I knew he prob would react to having a newborn in the house but didnt expect such a severe reaction from him. He is a rescue cat who has been with us for 1 1/2 years, and we adore him, so were both quite worried about him.

Any tips/advice on how to make him feel a little bit better?

If you can, avoid letting him out. I'm sorry to say (and don't want to scare you) but both my cats started out like this when we brought DD home last July, the strange behaviour continued and finally they just stopped coming home.

Not a very positive story to share with you (sorry) but am thinking if you can keep him inside he will HAVE to get used to the baby rather than finding alternative accommodation.(both my cats are still alive BTW, see them around the village)

Congratulations on your DD. x

A Feliway diffuser helped ours when DD came home - tis about £30 from a pet shop or the vets. My vet friend recommended it - good luck

It may well be just the baby and a behaviour thing, but it would probably be a good idea to get a once over with the vet anyway just to make sure your cat isn't actually ill and you are missing something.

DH and I have decided to give him to monday and then we'll be off the vets if he hasnt perked up. Funnily enough after posting this last night, he actually came into the house on his own accord, and again this morning. He still hasnt eaten much meat, but he was happy enough to have a little play with one of his teasers. He even went up to DD whilst she was in her bouncer sleeping, had a sniff and walked off again, so its a slight improvement.

Think were going to get the diffuser aswell, if it has the potential to relax him a little then its worth a try.

Thanks for posting back. I know I should be concentrating on DD (which I am ) but I do worry about him (silly me)
