Keeping the baby in and letting the cat out...

Hi all

We've reunited our cat and 1 year old after a couple of weeks in a new rental house. Up till now we've just kept the doors to our living room/kitchen shut to contain the baby who is running around. But now we need the cat to be able to get out to her litter tray. We can't keep it in the living area as the baby has already tried to eat it.

Do cats learn to jump baby gates if we install one? Any other ideas?

wouldn't a cat fit through a gste?

The bars are really narrow on the one we have. And I don't want to have to keep opening it for her.

Put her on one side of the gate and her food on the other - she's soon learn to jump the gate. The cat, obviously, not the baby........

lol. There would be a lot of crying involved though. The cat, not the baby...

My friends cat certainly jumps their gate... stick her in a room full of toddlers, she'll soon get the hang of it
(the cat, not the baby)

Cats acn easily jump stair gates.

My cat, who is rather dumb and portly can jump an 8 foot wall. I'm sure yours can manage a baby gate. She is just being lazy.

Ours weaves through the bars or banisters instead of jumping it but she can jump it if she chooses to. Your cat will get over or through anything she wishes to. If she really can't jump it the she needs a trip to the vet because she should be able to.

I'm sure she can. But whether she will be motivated enough to jump it in order to use her litter tray, rather than her favourite pooing place (behind the TV, all over the cables), is another question....

So far I've been opening doors on demand. Will tackle training when my OH gets back in 9 days. Not that I am counting or anything.

P.S Have name changed.
