Looking after a dog for five days

He's a big, black lab. He's lovely. But I've not got a clue. He's moving in with us for five days whilst his owners go away to France.

What should I do with him apart from walk him 2 x per day? Does he need constant companionship?

I'm really not looking forward to scooping the poop.

I think it will convince me that we do not need a dog. But I think it will convince my dh and children that we must get one.

Is it like having another child?

I'm looking forward to it but I'm a bit worried. The last time I looked after an animal for a friend - a yellow canary called Boy George - it died.

How easy it'll be depends on the dog really. Try not to leave him or her for more than 4 hours at a time, and definately the two walks. Also, they can be kept occupied with things like this when you're either out or otherwise engaged.

The poop bit isn't great but if you hold your breath and don't think about it too much you'll be okay!

Good luck!

ps yes, it's similar to another child but one good thing is that your kids and the dog are likely to keep each other occupied and out of your hair!
