Feliway Spray/Diffuser

My 2 boy neutered cats are very good (if a little odd at times!) but they are crap at defending their territory.

At night they sleep in a basket in the hallway and only have the run of the hallway/landing. All other doors shut, including kitchen but food/drink left out. They can come and go as they please via the side door cat flap.

I have lost count of the amount of times I have gone downstairs in the night and caught sight of the chunky rear end of one or other of the damn neighbourhood cats exiting via the cat flap (my boys curled up in their sodding basket, one eye each open looking sheepish )

Sometimes it stinks in the hallway so I imagine the intruder cat is spraying, although I have never seen any physical evidence of spray/urine - I frequently see him doing so on the bushes out front.

Obvious solution would be to get a magnetic cat flap, but my boys don't wear collars. I do not want to lock them in at night either - they are used to and happy with their independence.

Would a Feliway spray/diffuser do anything? Or is there any other deterrent to stop all and sundry partying nocturnally in my hallway? Or do I just have to put up with it?

Feliway spray on the areas where the intruder is scent marking may help to deter him from doing this, but is unlikely to stop him coming into the house. It is a facial pheromone that has a calming effect on cats. It may help your own cats to be a little more relaxed at home, but the intruder cat may also be happier too!

Why not take a look for a microchip cat flap. No need for your cats to wear collars, just o to have a microchip placed. The flap detects pre-programmed microchips and only the appropriate chips are let through the flap then. www.petporte.com/

We had this. But we had 2 fat neutered boys and the intruder was a tiny little kitten! My two were soiling in the house because of him. feliway helped them to relax, but that just meant they accepted the kitten and let him sleep with them! Eventually we moved house. (not because of the cat..)

So not very helpful, sorry. That microchip flap sounds like a great idea. Might look into it!

I had a very similar problem with my cat and the neighbours' cat.
I kept a spray bottle nearby, so if I saw the neighbour cat I would spray it (just with water), but short of staying up all night lying in wait, there wasn't much I could do.

In the end it resolved itself by the two cats having a screaming cat fight in my bathroom at four in the morning. However, I'm aware that's not the best solution. I would go with the mircochip cat flap.

Oh wow, the PetPorte cat flap seems genius - and programmeable for 31 cats too... However, the price nearly made me fall off of my chair

I may well just get a Feliway Spray or Diffuser (which arent actually that cheap either are they?!) for now and see, and save for the PetPorte.

I've sprayed the damn intruder with water when I have seen him in the past but he doesnt care. He actually sits outside our house sometimes waiting for us to come home and I've heard him cry outside if the cat flap is locked (whilst my 2 are snuggled in their basket pretending to ignore...bloody spineless gits )

Cheers!
