VallCat2, the murderous little bugger, has just relinquished from his jaws a tiny baby rabbit. The poor little mite appears unharmed and is now in a cat-carrier beside me, which is covered with a towel. He's semi-upright in the far corner and hasn't moved since we popped him in there, hanging on and still alive, but we all know how easily bunnies can die of shock.

Thankfully there's an excellent wildlife park/sanctuary in a nearby village to me and I'm sure they'll take him on if he makes it through til morning, so please can you send him positive thoughts, or prayers if you have them in you.

And if anyone wants to adopt a murderous cat, I'd be almost tempted to post the bugger to them! Grrrr!

You can have my cat of considerable character as well. Murdered a baby finch last night, the little wretch. DP brought her in by the scruff of the neck & she looked most undignified. She isn't speaking this morning

How's the rabbit?

Oh dear, hope the rabbit is doing OK. I'd have to return any murderous cat to sender as have three here already and wouldn't be able to keep up.

can I put another point of view ? Rabbits breed like, well rabbits - there are millions of the little buggers - there really isn't much point in wasting much time or resources on an individual wild rabbit.

When it has calmed down, take the carrier out to the field, open it and leave it. Rabbit will leg it and you can collect your carrier and forget about it - feeling happy that you gave it a chance.

I'm with throckenholt - we are overrun with them and it's only a matter of time before they all get myxymatosis (or however you spell it) and die an even more horrible death - our cat catches rabbits all the time at this time of year, and I leave her to it.

I remember watching one of those move to the country tv programmes and as the couple looked out of the window went "ahh, look rabbits in the garden, how sweet" I nearly choked - they are not sweet, at least not here! My veg garden is like Fort Knox, my flower be likewise and my lawn currently resembles a crazy golf course it's so bumpy and holey.

frosty, I've caught and saved a few with myxi too. The little fella we saved last night was fine this morning and released back into the wild at the advice of my local wildlife sanctuary. I hope he's going to be okay.

Funnily enough, later today I walked my dogs in that area and saw a baby rabbit hopping in the field just about where I released my overnight guest... soppy moo that I am, I'd like to think it was him, telling me that he's fine!

My cat caught a pigeon last week. The neighbours found it on my doorstep (which was covered with feathers) and a wing had been ripped off . My neighbour's son offered to quickly kill it which I would have agreed to as the poor creature was obviously suffering and horribly maimed, but my neighbour is softer than me and called an animal sanctuary who took it to a bird sanctuary near us. Even the rescue guy who came out to pick it up said it was probably too injured to live.

And my cat just sat there washing and looking smug. But that's what cats do - they are hunters
