gegs73 · 19/05/2010 14:58

Poo bags, blanket to go over crate. Are you getting two the same age, you are incredibly brave !

Also bio washing powder/simple solutions, Id tags. Copy of the Perfect Puppy.

beautifulgirls · 19/05/2010 19:47

identity tags

Slubberdegullion · 19/05/2010 20:01

Copy of The Culture Clash too

puppy kongs

chew toys (that they will never chew)

plasters for chewed fingers

If you really want to go the whole hog the current trend on mn is to match your whistle lanyard to your treats pouch .
[trend setter]

I have proper vet bed and ikea vet bed. Proper is thicker and more lush but as if the dog could give a tinkers cuss. Ikea stuff is fine.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 19/05/2010 20:31

If you get pouch get one with magnetic closing not drawstring as there is a tendency to leave it open and a random 11 year old can totally empty it whilst you aren't looking.

Not equipment and very premature but make sure you know the drill regarding cows before you are in a field with them heading at you. Because you may not be as lucky as I was today and have owner of pouch raiding lab to squeak about for advice on cow protocol.

Slubberdegullion · 19/05/2010 20:42

oh my

scary cows

what is the cow protocol Wynken?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 19/05/2010 21:09

Apparently if they seriously come at you it's the dog they are after, usually happens if they have young. So you let dog go as it can look after itself. If they are running at them you stand your ground looking at them waving arms and supposedly saying boo loudly is good.

She demonstrated the boo on a cow and it did move off but it wasn't charging and she approached it. Also was told that cases of trampling are usually when young calves in field and owner stoops to pick up dig and carries it.

I definitely want this standing and booing thing confirmed from another source before I try it. The cows made the swan flying down the stream making noises to divert us from its young seem positively tame.

misdee · 19/05/2010 21:39

lol, no cows round these parts, but will remember that

identity tags will be done closer to collection date, i was going to get them done today but want to clarify with dh what info he wants put on them. house number or mobile number, do u put the dogs name or just owners name, what vets they are registered with?

will get some vet bed stuff. have blanket for the crate.

forgot the treat pouches, but can whip some up on the sewing machine.

we are getting labradoodle brothers. both black, one curly, one more lab-like. they are second generation (F2)

well standing and waving your arms around and shouting BOO is all very well, personally I would leg it away from the cows!

My dog has a 'thing' for white horses... he thinks they are large dogs.

2 puppies - are you crazy crazy lady?

What breed are they?

misdee · 19/05/2010 21:43

totally barmy. but i have trillions of kids anyway lol.

i would also run away from cows. fast!

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 19/05/2010 21:46

Gosh. Boo and waving sounds a bit tame. Can you not threaten them with a stick? My father was alwys waving sticks at cows. You can also steer them by their tails. There is a picture of my little sister steering a cow. You need to get round the back though.

misdee - I am liking your whizzing up of a treats puoch on the sewing machine. It needs to have strong belt loops to prevent it falling off at ill opportune moments though.

misdee · 19/05/2010 21:48

am sure i will figure it out.

i got poop bags and a little holder wotsit to clip on the lead. am thinking once thats empty i can just get cheaper nappy sacks and fill it up by jamming them in.

Erm... lots of newspaper/puppy training pads... filling for Kongs... spare vetbed/blankets... an old fashioned alarm clock to tick for comfort if you're not daft like me and don't intend to have 2 ruddy great dogs on your bed each night but mean to start as you intend to carry on and have them sleep downstairs... radio to put on to distract when you have to go out without them... spare leads (pups always chew them if you don't lose one first, always an idea to have a spare in your pocket when out, the times I've lost a lead in the fields!)... name tags with your house number, postcode and mobile number on them... a specific file for insurance and microchip docs etc if you're disorganised like me, vet's number by the phone, perhaps a second pair of tags with your vets number on them, bumbag for treats, water bottle, poo bags, keys, mobile etc, if you're old like me not bothered about looking daft, portable water bowl, water bottle.... erm....

... think that's about all I can come up with!

sullysmum · 19/05/2010 22:25

Puppy pads?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 20/05/2010 07:32

I have a natural mistrust of the rear end of large animals and can't see me doing any steering, though I like the sound of a stick. My natural instinct yesterday was to leg it through the barbed wire fence I have to say, none of this boo business.

Misdee please come and join one of the labradoodle forums if you have time Uk Labradoodle or Doodle Times The lady who runs the Labradoodle Trust is on the Doodle Times one and hugely knowledgable and there's someone on UK Labradoodle who has two the same age as shd took on a rescue the same age as her existing one. They do need consistent training and sadly are getting a reputation for being mad and out of control so it will be vital to get stuck in the training. And thinking about it there is another lady who has very recently got two from same litter I think. There's loads of experienced doodle owners on there who are very helpful so well worth joining one of them if you have a moment.

ditavonteesed · 20/05/2010 07:50

I have about ten packs of puppy pads and we used 1, waste of time, must remember to take my treats poouch out with me.

Sherbert37 · 20/05/2010 07:55

Lots of towels. Useful for drying wet dogs and bedding, back of the car etc. Buy yourself some nice new ones and give the old ones to the puppies. Carpet cleaner. Ikea vet bed is fine.

minimu1 · 20/05/2010 09:26

Two from the same little you must be crazy! - Can I ask why you are getting two?

wildfig · 20/05/2010 09:49

Get cheap towels from Tesco in a vile colour that no one will mistake for human ones. Our v butch puppy dog has a mortifying selection in lurid pink; older dog has vampish red.

It's also worth getting the big squirty bottle of Simple Solution for housetraining, and stockpiling kitchen roll to mop it up. We get through a lot of unscented plain baby wipes too, for cleaning ears, mucky faces, and so on.

For the tags, we have 'I am chipped and spayed' on ours, plus our surnames, mobiles and home address. Hopefully it would deter anyone from stealing them to breed.

You might also need one of those Zen CDs that you can play to put yourself into a trance while cleaning up indoor accidents and shredded stuff. After four months that nearly finished me off, am thinking of marketing a soothing selection of whale music/calming beach noises, while a gentle voice, possibly John Nettles, or Terry Wogan, says, 'It won't last forever... praise the good, ignore the bad.... wee, please! wee, please!.... etc'

wildfig · 20/05/2010 09:50

Just to clarify: DH and I do not have tags. Ours would not say 'I am chipped and spayed', they would say, 'I am stroppy and need hourly coffee'.

JaxTellersOldLady · 20/05/2010 10:30

lol wildfig!

On my dogs tag it says Vet and Tel number on one side and our name and mobile number on the other. He also has a little tag saying "I am microchipped"

I wouldnt put the dogs name on - just incase he got stolen.

Good luck with the labradoodle - my woofers best friend is a black doodle and he is lovely - but very naughty. They play rough and tumble puppy games, it is funny to watch, both a year old now!

Curlylox · 30/05/2010 21:08

misdee where did you do your puppy shopping? Just wondered if you shopped around and got things cheaper online or in a store?
