Anyone keep crickets as pets?

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to keep some singing crickets as pets. I have bought them a small tank and have ordered about 25 from a pet supplier.

I don't think they live very long, but I'll just have to see how I manage.

The kids aren't impressed, but prefer these to the giant cockroaches which you can also keep as pets.

I like insects

Sounds cool! I'm in the process of setting up a beetle tank. I wanted to keep some inverts but after ruling out spiders and scorpions (I don't like them) and cockroaches and millipedes (DH doesn't like them) there wasn't much left over! Which supplier did you use?

I have a tank of crickets

to feed to my lizard .

I bought brown silent ones, but they are certainly not silent. They make a whole load of noise in the early evening and then again at about 5am.

Am just about to order some more, but I can't rmember where my last ones were from. Ones sold in petshops die very quickly. My current batch has been around for about 2 months I think.

There are hundreds of types available, its quite exciting chosing!

I got them from an online pet store. They arrived a few days ago. The order was for 25 large, black crickets, but there was about 40 in the container!!!!!!!

I had to go out and buy them a larger tank and they have settled in quite nicely. They like cat food, sweetcorn and other veg. They also eat digestive biscuits.

They chirp constantly!!!!

The females have been laying eggs in the substrate, but I don't know if they'll hatch as the tank isn't currently heated and it also may be too dry for them to hatch.

They look scary and I'm terrified that they'll jump onto my arm when I retrieve their feeding/water dishes, but they're also sweet and treat each other quite well.
