PDSA, Has anyone had a similar experience ...?

A good few years ago we had a cat and a dog when we signed up to the PDSA.

The cat is still here but the dog now lives with my mum (he always lived at her house but we lived there too and left him with her when we got our own home)

We also took in Jack Russell dog for about 2 months, he was a rescue dog and we had intended to keep him but he was very sbnappy and didn't like children, we rehomed him with an elderly old man locally.

Anyways with the PDSA you can only have 3 animals registered,

We now do only have 3 animals, the cat (who is registered) and 2 dogs,

but they won't let us register the dogs because the jack russel and my mums dofg is on there from at least 2 years ago.

I told them last time we went with the cat that they aren't our animals anymore but they wouldn't let us register our dogs,

My dogs both have private insurance, but like today I've had to take one and it cost me £70 at the vets.

I happily paid it and I would happily pay it at the PDSA (i always ask what the cost was and pay as much of it as I can)

and usually pay the full amount throught donations every week until the full bill is paid.

I really would like this option with my dogs but they still wont let me register them, is there anything I can do?

Please don't turn this into a benefits argument. We are on benefits and have pets, we always take themn to the vets at the first sign of any problem and pay pribatly if we have to like today but it is a strain finding the money in one go and if we got the PDSA treatment we are intitled to then we could pay it weekly.

It is standard procedure for them to register like this - unfortunately there are too many dishonest people out there (certainly not saying you are) who would play the system if they didn't have strict rules about registered pets and when you can register/deregister them.

Sorry this has worked out for you this way on this occasion. Why don't you make sure you de-register the pets you will never be taking there now so that if you ever need to register another at a later date they will not see the two changes as a "convenient co-incidence"

We told them about 4 months ago that only the cat was our pet now.

I have only ever had 1 dog registered with the PDSA. We had to re-register him every 6 months I think, incase our circumstances changed and we were no longer entitled to use their services. We had to produce documents to register again.

I don't know what their policy is on registering more pets, I believed it was 3 pets per person. I can understand htem being strict as some people do abuse the system.

They have also got more strict with their donations system. The one I vist now ask you to hand over your donations at the front desk. Before, you used to put a donation in a blank envelope.

Yes we have to show them up to date paperwork too,

I can understand them doing it, but what about people who haven't got a bit saved away and couldn't pay the private vets?

What would they have done today?

Its daft as its a 3 pet rule, I have 3 pets but I can only have 1 registered

Pets do die and people do get new ones!
