Dogs on the lead ACT

Has this come into force yet? I've just been told by a really snotty woman in the park that my dog should be on a lead?? I said I thought that was just dangerous dogs. She told me my dog was impolite for coming up to her. Ok so I know some people are scared of dogs but she was being OTT. He's soft as muck as are most of the dogs in the park. He's whippet cross and only 3 so I'll need to walk him miles to exercise him enough.

I've said for ages they should have an excercise area for dogs in that park. I'll be writing to the council to ask about it. Although they've just made a BMX track so probably won't have any spare cash?

We had it drummed into us at training that the DDA only requires someone to feel threatened by a dog and to have a witness for a dog to be seized. She said the authorities act first and ask questions and she's known people to report people maliciously.

You really can't allow your dog to approach people however friendly the dog is. I'm teaching mine to ignore with 'leave' or to sit and wait. Long process though, might be there by the time she's five!

I've looked into it and it seems they've changed some rules have changed but it's more for formal areas.

My dog did come back when I told him to and I put him on the lead. I'm thinking of getting an extendable lead and doing some extra training with this, then he can run a bit but I can have more control. She is the first I've come across to react that way to be honest as he's so obviously a big wuss but I don't want someone making out I'm a bad dog owner.

Thanks will look for one of those. He's on my profile if you want to see him It'd be good to have him even better trained but he's come so far as I got him as a rescue and he was such hard work. Been worth it though.

Thanks. I've been really working with him the last couple of days and his recall is excellent now Normally if he finds a playmate I'm forgotten but he's been coming back even when playing. Looks like I won't need to buy the long lead thank goodness. He needs so much exercise but that's good for both of us.

Just had an email back from the council. The woman was wrong, only exclusion is play area and bowling green. I've been asked to describe her as others have complained about someone saying the same to them.
