My two wee boys are going to the vets on Monday to be neutered. Any tips on post-operatove care will be gratefully received!

The vet or vet nurse who discharges them after the op will give you care tips but basically keep them warm and quiet the first night. After that they'll probably be back to normal - normal for a kitten anyway.

DH has just sent me a pic of one of them who has climbed the curtain at the front door and is looking out of the window at the top - about 8 feet! As long as they're back to being rambunctious soon enough that will be fine .
I'll make sure DS leaves them alone for a couple of days - he's sensitive enough to the 'dingle dangles' empathy

lol - it's really just that for about 24 hours they may still be a bit quiet after the anaesthetic. The wound itself is tiny and doesn't usually cause them any problems.

Good luck x

My kitty had his bits removed a couple of weeks ago - he stayed at vets for a couple of hours after the op but when we got him home and I tried to put him somewhere quiet so he could rest he wouldn't have it.

He ate his usual full meal, skipped around outside and went straight to his usual game of tormenting the labrador - chasing her tail and dangling off her nose.

It appeared to have no effect on him at all, although it will be interesting to see if he leaps into his cat box quite so happily next time.

It's a pretty minor op for them, they should be fine very quickly.

Biggest issue I had when my two were done was constantly reminding DD NOT to pick them up - they were perfectly full of beans but figured they wouldn't appreciate being scooped up off the floor by random parts of their anatomy whilst feeling a little sore.

Oh - the other issue was that they'd apparently got a bit bored whilst in the cage at the vets, as they had picked up a fun new habit of paddling in their water bowls and chucking water all over the floor. Other than that, unbelievable, they were as crazy as ever, and still don't seem to realise that going in the carrier means a trip to the vet.

We were told to discourage them from licking themselves, but of course that's only possible when they're in the same room.

Hip hip hip hooray
My cats have had their nads off
And they're coming home today

sorry boys

Oooh they were so loving & cuddly last night. Littlest one turned on his back in my arms & fell asleep. Bet they'll bloody hate me tonight .
