Male or female? I usually say it's a bit like kids- let them get on with it, but keep an eye and only step in if you have to! Bitches usually rule dominate

Both are male, The Lab is mine and is still very excitable and my mum is getting the cav which is apparently very small.

But we are hoping they will get on so we can walk them together.
Thanks for the advice.

I can't see any reason why they wouldn't get on! It will be lovely for them to have a companion on walks Yeah, you might need to watch that the cav doesn't get bowled over by his new pal, but if you just keep an eye out that rough-play isn't getting too rough, they should be fine! If the lab is getting too much for the puppy, make sure they can each have a separate place as a safe haven/ place to calm down!

My lab regularly played with a staffie puppy with the same sort of age gap - it was fine.

The staffie was really, really tiny (9 weeks) and my lab was about 10 months. It was lovely to watch actually, because my girl just toned down her craziness so she didn't overwhelm the pup. She did it with no input from me at all; they just know what to do.

We did the equivalent of play dates with them because the staffie owner wanted to make sure her pup was as socialised as she could possibly get it. It worked really well.

There were one or two squeals and yelps but they were mostly from my lab when the pup got carried away and nipped her lip or ear.

The thing to bear in mind is that it's the most natural thing in the world for pups to play with each other, and they have their own mechanisms for making sure it doesn't get out of hand.

Thanks ladies I guess I am just worried because he seems to get over excited and a few little dogs have gone for him.

Probably because he doesn't respect the bum sniffing ritual and even when they are growling and snapping he is still trying to play.
