Do I need to be concerned?

That depends, was it was your dinner?

I think you'll need to keep a close eye on him and his poos - eight thighs is a lot, and that much bone could cause a blockage or make him badly constipated, especially if his system isn't used to it. As far as I know, the fact that they're frozen shouldn't matter (I've heard a few people say they feed frozen chicken wings), and raw chicken bones aren't usually harmful to dogs (cooked are a big no-no as they splinter). But if he starts to vomit or show any discomfort, call the vet straight away.

Bet he's very pleased with himself! How old is he?

I'm assuming it's a 'he', as a girl couldn't possibly be that naughty, obviously

"He" is 8 and yes it was our dinner, coq au vin so now wine without cock Only reason I am concerned is that he had a life threatening bout of pancreatitis at Xmas due to PILs over feeding him an excessive amount of fatty meat. Hoping that low fat chicken should be ok.

Have not shouted at him but he looks very sheepish in the way only a basset can!

sorry i know it isn't funny

Jacksmama · 09/04/2010 19:22

Get out the carpet cleaner. You'll need it in a bit.

Jacksmama · 09/04/2010 19:23

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so abrupt. It isn't funny especially since it was meant to be your dinner.

Yeah, sorry, it is funny

MrsL123 · 09/04/2010 19:31

Takeaway it is then!

Fingers crossed he won't have any ill effects - there are a few BARF feeders/vets on here so I'm sure someone will come along with good advice soon, but just keep an eye on himi in the meantime. Why do they always do these things on weekends, when trips to the vet are extra expensive?!

Restrainedrabbit · 09/04/2010 19:34

Picture of said dog on profile, has a similar expression at the moment

MrsL123 I had two bassets til recently and they have always, without exception, had an emergency problem out of hours. I worship at the alter of Petplan, saved us a fortune in vet bills.

aw he's really cute

MrsL123 · 09/04/2010 19:55

Oh, those eyes are so pitiful, bet you can never tell him off! My labs can do the sad eyes too and they get away with murder. That's really sad about your other dog, it's so hard when you lose a pet, isn't it? Our old guinea pig died on Sunday and I was in bits, don't know what I'll be like when one of the dogs or cats goes.

BARF = 'bones and raw food' or 'biologically appropriate raw food', depending on which one you follow. Both include raw bones, but definitely do not include vomit (which is what barf means to us round here!).

Restrainedrabbit · 09/04/2010 20:45

Yes I was devastated at the loss of my old girl; So much a part of our family, Bassets love being part of the family 'pack'.

Intrigued by BARF but will stick to dried food I think
