The lady from Lab Rescue came and whisked them away.

I now have to wait for the call this evening to say they have made it ok and like their new home....

DS1 (4) cried loads too - wasn't expecting that.

oh dear. don't know your story but sounds all a bit sad.

tulpe · 09/04/2010 00:27

IIRC, Lady you are a foster carer for labs, right?

It must be very hard to say goodbye to them, despite knowing from the outset they aren't for keeps. But well done you for doing such a great job

LadyOfTheFlowers · 09/04/2010 07:43

Nah, I'm not a foster carer. Don't have the room/money.

That's why I had to give mine up.

Just wanted a few 'you did the right thing' messages I guess.

Very quiet and strange here without them - had them 7 yrs since pups.

it's a tough decision, but you made the difficult decision to do what's best for the dogs. Have you asked for them to be rehomed tpogether?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 09/04/2010 15:31

Yeah, they have gone together.

Co-ordinator called me earlier to say they were ecstatic when they got there. Acres of land/tennis courts/swimming pool.... we have a postage stamp back garden.
They ran around and went nuts and seemed to like the new lady.

I am sure they are fine, just a bit sad this end. Quiet....

I have two female labs, one 3 years and one just 11 months, I can't imagine ever having to give them up, they really are my life (DH would definitely have to go before the dogs!). It must have been a heartbreaking decision to make, but it's good to know they've gone somewhere so nice, I bet they'll be having a whale of a time with all that room to run around

Have you asked for some updates/photos as time goes on, or can they not do that?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 09/04/2010 17:27

Yeah, the co-ordinator is going to ring me periodically and ask the new people to send us some photos a few months down the line.

We are all really sad but think we did them the last duty we could by letting them go.

Oh, I am so so sad for you you must be heartbroken but i guess you did the right thing. They'll be happy in such lovely surroundings but I expect your heart is breaking.

MrsL123 · 09/04/2010 17:43

That's good then, you'll have something to look forward to

Seven years is an awfully long time to have your dogs and then have to part with them - I've only had my eldest for three years and I can't imagine my life without her, and even though the puppy is only 11 months I feel the same about her. DH and I always say we'd sell the house, live in a caravan and eat aldi beans for every meal if we needed to, as long as we could keep the dogs! But sometimes circumstances don't allow you to give them the home they deserve, and then you're left with a very hard decision to make.

You're going to miss them terribly and the house will seem very, very quiet without two waggy tails to greet you every time you walk in the door. But you've definitely done the best thing for them, and it sounds like they're starting an amazing new life with a lovely new owner. Doesn't make it any easier for you though, I know
