My cat had a fit an hour ago

It was the worse one in a long time. She is 15.7 years and has had hypoestesia for the last 4.9 years.

Once she had settled I sat with her and stroked her head talking to her. She is now sat next to me and is okay.

And my husband has said she will die some day. Why would he say that?

No one can tell me anything about her illness and whether it will kill her. Not having any kind of prognosis is so hard. She has always been really really well.

Oh bless you fab, I'm so sorry I know how distressing it must be for you. Hubby obviously put his foot in it.

He didn't mean too and definitely wasn't to hurt me. I was telling him I would be inconsolable if she died and he just said she would one day. I covered the cats ears and asked him why he would say such a thing.

Hi, my cat is almost 18 & has a few suspicious lumps (tumours?) Vet says at her age it would be too much 4 her to investigate & as long as she seems well then she is ok. Has made me very aware of her mortality tho & that she may not have long perhaps ur DH was trying to be sympathetic but putting his foot in it, it is difficult but for me, am trying to just make her time she has left good, lots of treats & affection

I actually think he was trying to prepare me for the day she goes. I have had her since she was 5 weeks old and so so tiny.

Does anyone know about the illness my cat has?

She is asleep now .

Hi there,
I am a specialist - tell me more about your cat's problem - there isn't really such a disease as 'hypoaesthesia'. You can get hyperaesthesia.
You need to have further investigations performed as seizures in a cat of your cat's age are very serious.
The more seizures occur then the more will happen without treatment.
Message with more information and I can advise you.

I knew I would spell it wrong!

She has just twitched next to me in her sleep.

Just 2 weeks after having my baby and 3 weeks after my nana died we noticed she was crying in a strange way and later chasing her tail. I didn't do anything for a few weeks due to new baby/a bereavement and then off she went to the vet and then a specialist vet. It was thought she had a brain tumour and if so that would mean she would have to be put down. She had to go to somewhere near Gatwick to have a brain scan at a cost of £1500. TBH I considered having her pts as I didn't want to put her through the journey, being away from me and home and the scan if she was going to be pts anyway.

Thankfully we decided to have the scan and she got her diagnosis and she is on daily medication and has 6 monthly blood tests. the tablets have pretty much stopped the episodes but when she does have one it is very upsetting.

is she on phenobarbitone? When did she last have her levels measured? If she has anymore fits she may need an additional drug (such as levetiracetam/keppra). How long ago did she have the MRI?
If it is just the one episode may not be as awful as it seems - remember they don't remember the fit at all so worse for you. Things to worry about would be:
another fit in next few days
a fit lasting longer than 1 minute (they always seem long so time them if they happen)
If you are still worried contact your vet/the specialist centre and tell them what is happening. If you are not happy then go back to see the specialist - or one closer to you.

Yes, one tablet in the morning and 1/2 at tea time. She didn't have her morning one though but I only discovered that when I gave her tea and it wouldn't be just because of that.

I can't remember when she had her bloods done but it is within the time - she goes every 6 months.

She had the scan in 2005.

I was told about the more than a minute thing but tbh they aren't that long but they are really upsetting to watch. Afterwards she just settles down and goes to sleep.

I have made a note of todays in case she has any more. I have also changed how I feed her because she is clever at spitting out/not eating her meds but not enough to make me think she isn't covered.
