Help! My cat has taken to crapping on our lawn....

without any shame at all! she doesn't even pretend to try and cover it up - just positions herself on the lawn and dumps. How can I get her to go somewhere else? And why is she doing this in broad daylight when she#s not even the dominant cat in the neighbourhood!!

Lots of cats do. Way of being territorial too. I'm sorry but I'm not a cat lover now - I used to be tho'(changed since having young children) and as lots of cats poo over our lawn, I loathe them with a burning intensity.

Borrow a dog for a few weeks?!

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 27/03/2010 23:26

Better your lawn then someone elses dear. It's more annoying when you don't have a cat and you have small children that like to play in the garden but can't because there's cat shit everywhere.

DuelingFanjo · 27/03/2010 23:30

you have a litter-tray?

doozle · 27/03/2010 23:31

Agree with Belle, at least it's your lawn. Get so fed up with every bloody cat in the neighbourhood coming over to our garden and crapping in it.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 27/03/2010 23:55

I just leave my gate open now, all the little sods think they own the bloody street anyway. I'd be happier if it did crap in it's own garden, can't see why I should have to clean up dead mice/shite so my friends little ones can play outside/ds can play.

I would prefer my cat to use MY flowerbeds instead of MY lawn. Thank you for all the advice

There is an excellent cat repellant which is made primarily from garlic essential oil. You just scatter the pellets where puss is pooping and she will stop - they cannot abide the smell of garlic. Worked for us when the neighbourhood cats crapped all over our front garden (and then our cats joined in to assert their dominance!!)

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 28/03/2010 18:16

You didn't actually say that you would prefer your cat to poop in your flowerbed though Sugar, you gave us the indication that you just didn't like your cat pooping on your garden.

SugarSkyHigh · 28/03/2010 20:35

thanks Tulpe I will look for something with garlic

I need these tips too SugarSkyHigh.

Love my cats and like you, I am sure, would be mortified if my cats was pooping on someone elses lawn.

However, what can you do to encourage your cat to use a specfic area, like a flowerbed etc.

wubblybubbly · 28/03/2010 20:55

Sorry OP, not sure what to suggest. My DM had a little dog that used to shit on my pillow and I was at a loss then too

Not a lot of use here really....

ooosabeauta · 28/03/2010 20:58

I'd love to know what to do too - we don't have a cat but the street has lots, and we spent £1100 last summer on decking the (small) garden so that they would stop crapping on the lawn and so that my ds could use the garden. In the last month the offending cats have started crapping on the decking. I'd never known a cat who'd do that in the middle of a hard surface. What next? I don't want to tidy it up cos I'm pregnant and nervous of the germs, and frankly irritated that our 'solution' didn't work!

why should you let your cat use other peoples garden cheeky bee hatch
