assassin snails- sweetnitanitro??

so, i am at the end of my bloody short tether with the stupid snails in my fish tank!

i've got rid of all the cone shaped ones, and now am left with the round ones.
i was taking out at least 20 a day a while back and eventually we took everything out of the tank, washed all the plants, sifted all the gravel etc etc etc

put it all back together. a week or so later I spot one. now we're over-run again!!

even doing the cucumber trick, they're just reproducing faster than i can get rid of them and i HATE them. it has become a battle of me against the snails and i refuse to be beaten lol

anyway, dp wants to get an assassin snail, but i am not sure because we have some shrimp and i am worried that if they eat all of my pest snails then will go for the shrimp. so i will feel like i need to always have some of the pest ones to keep the assassin happy.

any advice on this one??

Assassins can eat shrimp if they get the opportunity, especially like you say if there aren't any snails for them to eat. Shrimp are usually too quick but I'm not a risk taker so I don't think I would keep the two together.

If your snail population is exploding that quickly it might be that you are overfeeding your fish (very easily done, nearly all aquarium fish are a bit porky ). How much do you give them?

yes, i think we have been overfeeding them actually. i tend to just give them a little bit twice a day but i am now wondering if dp has also been feeding them!

Ah yeah, that's how our cats sometimes managed to sneak 4 meals a day . The manufacturer's instructions on the fish food packet always tell you to feed them way way way too much. Give them what they can eat in 3 minutes once a day and scoop out anything they don't finish within that time.

Fish are greedy opportunistic feeders so they'll eat whether they are hungry or not and most fish will beg whenever you go within 6 feet of their tank. Cheeky buggers
