Can a cat still get fleas even if we've used Frontline ??

Dp thinks he found a flea on his training shoe, so is now saying the cat has fleas.

We used Frontline on here about 2 weeks ago though.

My neighbour was advised by his vet not to use Frontline on his cats either, because they wash each other, and he was given the same advice as KangaMummy - that it's dangerous to the cats if they ingest it.

frontline kills fleas when they jump on the cat but if there are eggs hatching in the carpets they may decide to try a bit of human instead. We once missed using frontline and it is a real pain trying to get the sprays into all the soft furnishings and every corner of the house. We now treat the cat from May to October. It is definitely worth the cost (we buy spot on from supermarket, cheaper than frontline from vet, seems to work) to avoid the hassle.

Nutty doesn't have soft furnishings and carpets though, tatt, so it wouldn't be the hassle for her to get rid of the fleas that it is for homes with carpets and so on.

My cat has had fleas twice in the ten years we've had her. That would have been an awful lot of money needlessly spent on Frontline if we'd treated her routinely. We do spray the house a couple of times a year as a precaution, but that's a lot cheaper than spending £30 on a packet of Frontline.

Spot on costs about £14 for 6 tubes and if you have a big house and carpets you can spend that on sprays if you spray twice a year. Even with no carpets there are still beds and possibly curtains to spray, bedding and clothes to wash. The cat is also protected against ticks. If we didn't use it I'd feel I constantly had to be checking the cat for fleas or ticks. Also I'd rather have the chemicals on the cat than on the bed. But each to their own - just thought I'd mention the supermarket version as its cheaper.

Has anyone used Frontline Combi...Its meant to work on cat and house!?

jodie1984 · 26/09/2005 15:43

frontline will only kill fleas once they have bitten the animal and drank the blood, nothing in the world can stop fleas jumping on your pet. frontline combo is only good if your pet molts but it is not very highly rated i would advise using frontline or stronghold with a household spray from your vets not supermarket. frontline is best as a preventative measure it is not very good at killing an infestation of the animal.

hope this helps

i have just read the post regarding liver damage if the frontline is ingested?? frontline is not harmfull to the animal at all, it will foam at the mouth if ingested because it reacts with the saliva but it has NO ill effects!!
