Pregnant cat, giving birth(?), bleeding, advice needed pls

I have a cat who was in season about 8/9wks ago. Tried to keep her in, she got out and spent all night out.

So it has become apparent she is pregnant. She saw vet a few weeks for someting else and she said she didn't think she was pregnant unless in the very early stages but that wouldn't add up as to when she was calling etc

So on Monday she started bleeding, partner took her to vets who then confirmed she is pregnant but not as far along as I thought and it looked as though she was/is probably having MC

So that night she stopped bleeding, has been fine in herself since, totally normal and have seen kitten movement in her belly.

Tonight the bleeding has started again.

So is it likely she is fine and it's the start of labour (do they bleed in labour first??) or is it likely she is mc'ing the kittens and what should I do?

Thanks in advance for any help.

oh no So sorry to hear this.

Vets rang, cat is fine but no kittens

Said there were only 2, 1st one had obv already died so thats probably where the bleeding was from and they tried reveving 2nd one but it didn't respond.

Glad cat is ok though. Will be picking her up this evening, poor thing.

Thanks for everyones imput x

Oh, that's so sad

Poor wee thing - give her lots of cuddles (and tuna)

So sorry to hear this

Did they spay her or will you have to take her back at a later date for that?

GreaterFence · 20/03/2010 14:46

I asked for her to be spayed at the same time, didn't see the point in her having to have two ops instead if one.

Do you think she will "miss" her kittens/look for them, will she know something is up??

Sounds strange but surely her instincts will be to think she should now have kittens?

I missed this thread before- was the blood a kind of red/ brown colour- just that that can indicate a degree of placental separation in a cat.

She may miss her kittens She will also have milk, so watch to make sure she doesn't develop mastitis, as they sometimes can.

I am a bit cross with your original vet, tbh. How hard would it have been to quickly check your cat? (I am a vet, btw!)

TulipsInTheRain · 20/03/2010 17:09

Poor cat

She may miss the kittens or she may not notice, as it's her first litter there's a good chance she won't realise.

Keep a close eye on her teats, last thing poor puss needs now is mastitis.

Expect her to be very woozy for the evening and spend the next few days mostly just sleeping and resting (although if she does instictively know she should have kittens she may spend the next day or so calling for them and looking in odd corners)

I think a letter of complaint to the original vet is in order too btw, their lousy attitude caused the poor cat alot of discomfort and you alot of worry, lord knows what the outcome might have been if she'd received better care from the first vet.

tulpe · 20/03/2010 17:55

I'm so sorry

I know it won't help your situation now, but ITA that you should complain to the original vet.

MrsL123 · 21/03/2010 12:34

How is she this morning, greaterfence?

GreaterFence · 22/03/2010 20:49

Didn't collect her until Sunday evening as I thought tbh she could do with a rest and some peace away from my hoards (Have 5 dc's, 3 under 3, not good at doing quiet!)

Brought her in and she seems ok, definately doesnt like taking her tablets but has to be done.

She is ok, being very clingy, keeps following me everywhere and wants lots of cuddles. Hasn't seemed to be looking for kitties though so that's something.

Hopefully she'll be back to her normal bouncy self soon.

Thanks for asking

glad she's ok GF, some females do become a bit more clingy and affectionate after neutering... one of mine follows me around the house now which is sweet but annoying

Hope she recovers quickly... how are you after all that worry and panic?
