DD 'was' getting them for her birthday, we were going down to choose them tomorrow (not ready to leave mum yet)..but just reading into them and seems most people advize against them as they say thr rabbits are prone to kicking and biting them??????HELP!

It's not advised to keep them together, though some people do. a rabbit's hind legs can dish out a hefty kick that could actually kill a piggy, without meaning to - so best not if you can avoid it.

How about getting her two pigs or two rabbits - they are best to have company, not kept alone really.

Is it too late to change the plans now?

Plus we tried putting our pigs in with our rabbits last year, and it took about 10 seconds for one of the rabbits to turn round and try to attack one of the pigs, who went up and sniffed her - took them straight out again!!

if they have always grown up together you may just about be Ok, but it's really a bit of a risk. Plus they have different needs regarding food, space, etc.

Yes, the rabbit can bully the guinea pig. also they need different foods. And then there's illness. It's not a good idea. GPs are delicate little creatures. They do need company and if the rabbit and GP get on well, it can work, but because you have no way of knowing until you plonk them together, probably better to get 2 GPs

Or better still - get a pair of rats! They are the BEST pets!

DD had a rabbit and guinea pig for her 8th birthday - she chose them at the pet shop and the shop kept them together for a week before they let us take them home to make sure they got on OK - they also told us to feed them both guinea pig food as it has more vitamin C which guinea pigs need. The guinea pig totally bossed the rabbit & would pinch dandelions, which they both love, out of her mouth.

But this was 12 years ago & I think the advice now is not to mix the two - and if I did it again, I would get two guinea pigs, as they are smaller & easier for a young child to handle - the rabbit, despite being described as a 'mini dwarf lop' ended up massive and was quite a handful.

thanks for all your help...dd has said she'll be ahppy with 2 dwarf rabbits, it was more me that wanted the guinea pig as i used to have them as a child and thought one of each would be ncie..but apparently not such a good idea now ...plus they will be outdoors and my g.pigs were always inside, even the ones on the farm are stil in their cages in a out building so am assuming they are not as hardy as rabbits?..aw..am sad about the guinea pig, but dd has said she would prefer 2 rabbits..so plan b now, thanks again everyone
