Where do you buy your vetbed from?

Bought a piece for the dog's prison crate weeks ago after her operation, and it's the only bed she hasn't managed to chew to bits. So I'm looking to get a few big pieces to use as beds around the house and in the back of the car, and some to keep spare so I've always got a clean bed for them, mucky pups that they are. I got the existing one from PAH and it was about £25 which seems very pricey considering it's just the standard green backed stuff, not even the gold or non slip. And it's not even very big, only takes up half of her crate. It is lasting well though, it's been washed about six times and still looks new (I go over it with the slicker brush when it comes out of the machine to get it all fluffy again).

I've done a bit of googling and found Profleece and Bedding Box but not sure what the quality is like?

Also, is the gold (thicker) stuff worth the extra money? The kitchen floor is hard and cold, so with the puppy's joint problems I wondered if it's worth the extra expense. Not that she spends a lot of time lying on it, but still!

The last 'vetbed' I bought was from Ikea, having gotten fed up with spending ridiculous amounts of money. I can't remember how much it was off hand, but about £7 maybe? It only comes in grey, which I'm notkeen on, but the white proper vetbed goes grey after a while anyway.

It's been fine for my dogs, who usually 'shun' proper dog beds. As soon as I put it out they all got on their bit and stayed there! Have had no problems with them sleeping in the kitchen (tiled floor) with it and will defnitely buy it again.

We bought PAH vetbed and tbh I wouldn't buy it again. It sheds a lot and the green coloured backing seems to dry out and scatter powdery bits everywhere

There's a company on ebay that sells offcuts of memory foam for pets beds. They only cost a few pounds and are really good quality.

I think they are called beddybuybuys4u or something similar.

I bought a 3m roll online from here for £ 34. Service very good. THey sent wrong colour by mistake and when I let them know this theys ent out teh correct colour and told me to keep teh other roll. (I gave it away or you could have had it)

Midori, is this the stuff? Ikea is miles away from us but my mum has one local to her and she's coming up this weekend, so I think I'll ask her to pick me a few up - for £6 each it doesn't matter if they wreck it! can Do they wash ok?

Tulpe I've not had any shedding problems with the PAH one yet but it's still relatively new considering proper vetbed is supposed to last years, so that means nothing! Wouldn't suprise me though, nothing from PAH is ever the quality you'd expect for the price. I didn't even check the size of this piece when I bought it because it had a picture of a golden retriever on the front and I thought for £25 it must be huge - she can just about curl up on it an no more, it's more spaniel size than labrador! It'll be donated to the cats as soon as I've got a replacement.

Thanks for the links cuppateajanice and haggisaggis, I'll check them out when I get home. I was thinking about a memory foam one for our bedroom to keep them off the bed at night (anywhere else they'd just destroy it!) but they're usually so expensive.

sorry not sure where that random 'can' came from

Yes, it looks like it.

It washes OK, we wash ours twice a week usually and have had it for months now without having to change it and although it's nto as fluffy as when we first got it, it's still fine and the dogs still love it.

It's probably about he same size, maybe a little bigger, than the vetbed you have though. Ours have to curl up to completely fit on it, but they don't seem to mind. I usually lay all three piece next to each other though, so they can stretch out and 'share' but they often all cram onto one bit!

The one we've got now is 60x70cm, the ikea ones are 80x80cm, so it should give her a fair bit more space. Planned to put two next to each other so that'll be fine, and at least two smaller bits will be easy to wash - not sure a big piece would fit in the machine! And of course if it's too big, how are they supposed to drag it out of the doggy door to lie on outside in the rain?!

I can see my ikea list growing by the minute, been looking for some stands to lift their food bowls off the floor and ikea have them for a fiver each. Will have to bribe my mum with the promise of reimbursement for a hotdog!
