Hello folks

I was advised to move this thread over from Good Housekeepoing, so I could get more replies

I am new here so would like to say hello.

I have been running some surveys on the relative merits of different sytles of advertising as regards a dog walking business.

I have placed these on some dog chat websites, but then a lightbulb hit me.grin

The people to ask are also those whom see this issue from the point of view of domestic arrangements and family ethics.

Then I heard that Mumsnet is full of many wise and sensible people.
In fact, so influential, even our political leaders come to you!

Therefore, I hope you can forgive this impertinence.
I figured my survey would come under the loose heading of 'good housekeeing'?
I hope that is OK?

If all you great people would spare me a few minutes on a couple of questions, I would be very very grateful
I am not performing any brand selling, its just personal research as regards my future plans.

  1. Out of the following 3 options, which is the first and main place you would look out for adverts for dog walking businesses:

a. google/web search/websites

b. leaflets on noticeboards in pet shops/vets/newsagents etc

c. phone books

  1. For option a - websites - which type of design would you prefer:

a. A corporate business style which just details the services in a business promotional style, only containing generic corporate 'library' style photos and does not mention the individuals involved.

OR

b. a personalised website which explains the services available from the point of view of talking about the people walking and caring for the dogs and features photographs of those people with animals.

  1. What other features would you like to see on a website advertising dog walking services?

Many thanks, kindest regards, and a warm hello to all smile

Word of mouth would be my first preference, but otherwise probably a poster in the vet/pet shop (I guess because you assume in some way it is endorsed) and then a website - if the website was linked to a site I trusted that would help (say a dog trainer I knew or something like that). For a website I'd prefer option b, as I'd care that the person sounded/looked like they were nice, and so I'd like to see them interacting with dogs. I'd also want to get an idea of their style (off lead, on lead, treats vs discipline etc). Feature wise I like to be able to see exactly what I might be paying for (so options for length of walk etc and the associated cost, whether the dog would be walked on his own or with other dogs, in which case how many), experience/qualifications etc.

Nooka has pretty much covered how I feel about it. I would only use someone that someone gad recommended as to me it would be quite a big thing for someone to have access to my house and dog. Mine will occasionally be going to stay with her trainer who I chose by asking the vets who they had heard was good, then found a friend had used her.
