I have 2 dogs labradors , one of which is quite big , i mean tall really hes almost 2 and jumps up and takes food or anything left out on table or work tops all the time , he can also turn the hob on or off now ...

were having a new kitchen fitted in 3 weeks time and really dont want him to jump up alllll the time its driving me nuts ...does anyone have any ideas how i can stop him doing this . i thought he would calm down a bit by now ...

I think you can get guards to go over the hob controls to stop toddlers fiddling with them.
If you clear your worktops of everthing you can, especially food (shut him out when you're cooking)There'll be no reason for him to do it, so eventually he should get out of the habit.

What do you do when he does it? If he gets away with it he'll never stop.

when im out of kitchen at moment we have to hide , move everything away so if he does jump theres nothing to get..
he wil chew anything left around ,

when im cooking i tell him off and he doesnt do when im there so much , we do have a coservitory which we use for them when eating etc so could shut him in there , i just feed up with always having to think about ,wheres the dog wheres the food ...

I had a baby gate for my dogs, who couldn't be trusted with a bin/ nr worktops. serves to keep them out of the kitchen completely, but they can still see you and be near you.

nicking food is a trait typical of the breed labrador.

what obedience training have you taught?

a baby gate is a great idea.
