Puppy vaccinations

Hi there

Does anyone know much about vaccinations? We picked up our new puppy on Monday (gorgeous!) - she had her first set of vaccs with the breeder, and they used Eurican. Our vet uses Nobivac so has said that we will need to start the course over again as they are not compatible. This means that it will be another month before she is safe to go out and about, which seems far too long to me - I'm dying to get out with her!

I have found another vet who will give her a Eurican booster, but they want to wait another four weeks to do this, so it gets us no further forward in time - argh!

Does anyone have any experience of this? I am thinking at this stage to start the course again, just to keep things simple and stay with our own vets - would be glad to hear any views on this.

TIA

I don't know about Eurican but I am guessing the 'booster' you have been offered is not a booster, but the second stage of the primary vaccinations. Puppy vaccs are usually given in 2 doses, a few weeks apart (depending on the actual vaccine used).

Boosters are an annual, single vaccination given once a year, starting one year after the primary course has finished.

Pups cannot usually go uot straight after the second primary vaccination anyway - again it depends on the exact vaccine but there can be a further fortnight to wait.

Whatever you do, don't risk her life by taking her out before she's fully vaccinated. You can take her in the car to watch things or hold her in your arms, but don't allow her on the ground.

Thanks Bella32 - I do mean the second stage - sorry, not quite there yet with all the terminology. And thanks for the advice about not letting her on the ground till we are all done. I know that this is right but it really helps to have it reinforced and refocus on getting safely through these next few weeks. I am just desparate to take her out and show her off!

It's like having a new baby....!

Yes, it's very hard at this stage, I know Entirely understandable that you want to show her off
