Since we moved, the dog has been very unsettled and has started howling

The howling has just started the past couple of nights. We moved beginning of Feb. In our old house he slept in a big walk in cupboard/utility type room which connected the house to the garage. It was at the bottom of the stairs.
In this house his bed is in the kitchen - which you have to go through the living room and dining room to get too, so he is a bit further away from us, IYSWIM. He doesn't like lying on the blanket we lay ont eh floor for him - yet would lie happily on it in old house, he whines a fair bit too

It sounds like he's just having some trouble settling into his new home. Get him a DAP collar and a DAP plug-in for the kitchen, and you'll probably see a difference almost immediately. You can get them from your vet or in Pets At Home (or online - but obviously delivery will take a few days so I'd be tempted to go to PAH instead). You could also try Zylkene tablets (again from the vet or online), which has a soothing effect and helps with stress. Both have proved very useful in settling our dog while she's crated (just had an operation).

Oh and if the DAP doesn't help, it may be worth getting him a check up at the vet, to rule out any health problems.

Had he stopped chewing all your walls etc., Saltire? I'm just wondering if he has separation anxiety and the move has upset him further?

Defo try a DAP collar, and maybe see vet with a view to going to a behaviourist?

Keep us posted, please.

He hasn't chewed walls for ages, thankfully. Will have a look in PAH for the thing ssuggested
