Urgent advice/help for training needed with puppy.

I am staying at IL's at the moment as my MIL has been taklen ill and is in hospital. She has an 8 month old puppy (toy poodle) that is being a frigging nightmare and I desperately need some advice!

She can sit on command, and can walk to heel if you tug a few times. She has been going to dog training but it isn't having an affect, probably as MIL is not here.
She will stay for about 6 seconds as well.
I am staying with DD's who are 2.4 and 3.11

She is very good tempered but is a jumpy 'nippy' puppy

Problems are
She will not return to any of us, so we csn only let her run in the garden or on the extender lead. It takes 20 minutes to catch her when we let her out to we in the evening as she won't come back in (and we want to go to bed!)
She is jumping at DD's all the time. I can shut her in the kitchen but she just carries on when she is let out. She jumps up on her hind legs and her claws are scratching them.

Any advice/help woudl be great

Am going offline now but will be back tonight, fingers crossed, tia

For recall, everytime she comes to you, call her name as she's coming anyway, and give her a bit of something lovely like sausage and make a big fuss. That way she should come to see what treat's in store. For jumping, you are supposed to ignore her when she jumps and praise enthusiastically when her feet are on the floor. ime progress is very slow. Biting, you're supposed to ignore, walk out of the room on her if she bites, stop a game or whatever. When she stops give her a toy that she's allowed to bite. Don't shout at her not too as she'll just think you're barking(!) and joining in the game. Don't touch her when she jumps as she'll also think it's a game. Easier said than done with dcs I know. Get some dog nail clippers and take the points off her claws to help the scratching.

I have a puppy and some of this is working and some is not really that well, but I can see the point of the theory. You can get them to do a lot if you always have sausages at the ready.

'not to', I meant.

I realise that's all a bit garbled. The point of the recall exercises is that you need to make you more attractive than anything else. So always having tasty treats and being full of enthusiastic praise is good. Use her name a lot so you can be sure she knows that it is her name.

get kids to cross their arms and turn their backs to the puppy, totally ignoring, then call her away using food as a lure so she is rewarded for leaving the jumping and returning to you.
Constant food in pocket to build up some trust and bond... every time you see her offer a treat.

'It takes 20 minutes to catch her when we let her out'

It isn't clear from this whether you are chasing after her when she won't be caught. If you are, stop! Dogs very quickly decide this is a really fun game and will enjoy running away from you

Thanks guys. We aren't chasing after her, mainly cos it is freezing but because we realised she thinks it is funny.
She comes to the patio door and barks, so we open it, and she buggers off back down the garden againthen Repeat x 10.
I got her back earlier using cream cheese in her Kong, which is MIL's fave treat for her, was planning on scaling down the treats as time goes on so with any luck that will work. DD1 and I were working on her commands as well, sit, lie down and stay are working really well so far. It's hard as she is MIL's puppy and now she has strangers in teh house doing all ehr stuff.

She doesn't bite as much as she is jumping wither her mouth open, so not in a dangerous/vicious way.

Good tricks to try tomorrow though, thanks.
She is generally a lovely dog when she isn't overexcited, and obviosuly she is not getting tired. She was out in the garden with DD's earlier for a few hours so is sleeping on my lap now, which is lovely, as I miss having a dog around!
