I seem to have got a new puppy... A 14 week old lab x staff (we think) called 'Buster'.

I found out a friend of a friend was rehoming him yesterday. He originally came from the pound, a whole group of people here got puppies from the same litter, and they have only had them 4 weeks. It's been really playing on my mind, so I spoke to hubby and he said we could have him. I am glad I spoke ot her as she is going back to England tomorrow to visit and was reutrning him to the pound. She wasn't aware they put dogs to sleep there, she thought it was just a rescue centre.

Nothing wrong with him, just normal puppy behaviour. A bit bitey for his age, but he is not vaccinated yet and not at all socialised with dogs or people. He is very wary of my girls, bless him, but is getting used to them quickly.

He is currently getting used to a crate, so I am sat in the kitchen next to him and he is going to sleep, bless him. He's had two outside wee wee's so far and no indoor ones! He is also getting the hang of 'sit' pretty fast.

Its not my intention to keep him, and I was very honest with the girl about that. I will train him in the basics, get him neutered and hopefully find a nice home for him and home him on the same sort of contract as my puppies go on, so he has to be returned if the new owners don't keep him. I am fully aware the right home might not come along though, and if it doesn't, that's fine, we'll fit him in here.

I have a "foster" dog Midori that I will not be keeping just training up for another owner - I've had him six months!!!! He is turning out to be a great agility dog. But as far as my OH is concerend he is a foster!

Have fun with him - he has landed on his feet

Thankyou.

Yes, well, we'll see how long he stays here...

He's been as good as gold. He is getting used to the girls and I'll take him for his first vaccinations on Monday.

Where is yor 'foster' from?

Many tears.

Do you foster regularly for them then? Or is it just a foster as far as your hubby is concerned?! I have occasionally fostered for breed rescue, but more than often just help out with transport, homechecks etc.

I can no longer look at the Many Tears site, it breaks my heart.

No I usually have my official "foster dog" but then have a copule other short term ones. I also foster for a local organisation who takes dogs from the pound when their 7 days are up.

I have a staffy at the moment who I have had for three days but just house training her then she will be off to a new home in a couple of weeks. I am collecting a border collie 8 month old pup tomorrow to train up and then she will go in about a months time. If things go to plan.

Un-Mumsnetty hugs to you both!

Thank goodness for wonderful ladies like you. Young Buster has landed on his feet, in a world where SBT types are so often unwanted.

Midori, I try not to look at Many Tears too, I always end up sobbing, though I have had some dealings with them. They're marvellous.

I hope we'll see pictures of these foster babes when you ladies get time.

Ooh, a Border Collie sounds fun... a breed I love and am very tempted by (I am always reluctant to have anything other than Goldens, they are SO easy) but something I need to wait until the children are all grown up and I only have dogs to worry about I think. My current dogs can cope with the odd day off if the children are desperately sick and my DH is away, but I doubt a BC would..

I'm very pleased with little Busters progress already. He got told off by my girls a couple of times last night, once for trying to steal a bone and once for nipping too hard when playing. Bless him, but I think it did him good, he's still playing with the girls, but is a lot more respectful with them today.

A couple of rubbish pics:

Aaawwww, he's so cute. How could you not have taken him home

I really admire you ladies who help these dogs that could potentially have ended up goodness knows where. Although they're fun, it can be hard work when they're pups.
