Two question s please re my seven month old gorgeous Labradoodle

When is the right time to get my gorgeous pup clipped. Her coat is quite long but goes curly when wet and I am quite happy just to leave it as we love her looking scruffy but when she poops it tends to get stuck in her leg fur - so is it to soon to get her clipped.

She sleeps in a closed crate at night, very happy, never have a problem getting her in (doesnt like being woken in the morning!) Is it ok just to crate her at night or should we stop doing this - Im not to keen on the thought she might be wandering around when we are asleep.

All advice welcome.
Thanks

She sounds lovely. I'd get her clipped - or at least trimmed a little - now, especially if she's getting poo stuck in her coat.

You can keep the crate as long as you want. IME people only really put the crate away to save space - given half a chance the dogs would keep it as their 'den' forever

thanks for the advice - she loves her crate, will definitely not be doing away with it

curly wet labradoodles look great. they look like they've had an old lady perm. but before the blow-dry and set. (no advice, just wanted to say that)

No advice but I have one the same age, well nearly 8 months now, and just wanted to ask is yours bonkers ?

claricebeansmum · 29/01/2010 16:06

Our doodle is 1.3 years old.
She is bonkers.
I'd get her clipped. Claggy poo fur is not an attractive look.
Our doodle takes herself off to her crate at night and sleeps in there. It's her den and she retreats there when she has had enough of us. Ours has free rein of the kitchen and futility room at night. Can your get to water?

Yes, my dogs crates get put away once they are toilet trained/not likely to chew things and then I only use them for shows.

I have got a crate in the kitchen for the new pup we have at the moment and a while ago one of my bitches went in and claimed it as her own. She did not want to budge at all.

It is only because of space I put them away.

Er Claricebean, I think what you actually meant is yours is 1.3 years and bonkers but significantly less bonkers than at 8 months - you did, didn't you ?!

Ours sleep in a closed crate at night and I'm not intending to stop for the foreseeable future at night as I dread to think what she'll do. Although she isn't big on going in her crate during the day she does take stuff off there she knows she isn't supposed to have so I guess she does view it as her den.

yes - bonkers is definitely the correct way to describe, and the most loveable, affectionate, happy puppy you will ever wish to meet. Its like having another baby all over again. Although the teenage years are coming far to soon and I already have a 15 yr old
