HELP - female dog advice needed!

I have 2 puppies
they are nearly 8 months old.

One of them has been doing little wees (?) all over the house for the last day or 2 (they are house trained now so not the norn)

She is dripping it out as she walks and I've just gone in the kitchen to find a little puddle of wee/goo/water with blood in.

Is she having her first season?

Never had a female dog before so am not sure.

Shes only been in our garden but scared shes damaged herself!!

it could be according to this or she might have a slight infection?

Disenchanted3 · 17/01/2010 21:54

Thankyou, sounds like it, but I wouldn't describe it as mucas its watery.

I don't want to take her to the vet incase it is just that but ddon't want to not take her incase she has an infection?!

Is there any way to know?

Sounds exactly like my dog's (bitch's!) first season. She wasn't that much over 7 months, so the correct age. Keep an eye on her - don't let her out on her own.

AnAngelWithin · 17/01/2010 21:57

it might turn more mucusy in the next day or two. is she 'swollen' round her girly bits? If its an infection, antibiotics will sort her.

AnAngelWithin · 17/01/2010 21:58

oh yes. agree there...don't let her out on her own!!! You will soon know if its a season if you have dogs begging to get in your garden or if they try to hump your legs after shes been near you lol

Slambang · 17/01/2010 21:58

Are her 'bits' swollen or swelling? If yes then it's a season.

Disenchanted3 · 17/01/2010 21:58

Thanks RacingSnake, will keep a close eye on her,

Yes my chi does this,i always know when she going into season as she does little wees then a couple of days later she bleeds properly.

Disenchanted3 · 17/01/2010 22:30

Ah thats reassuring, thankyou, I didn't realise they did little wees, so I thought something was up with her bladder

How long does it last please?

Erm slam, I'm not sure, I don't usually look at them so hard to tell if they are different

it may different in little dog

I would take her to the vets to be sure. A urine infection is very uncomfortable for the bitch and it would be common around the time of a season. Leaking urine is a common sign.

If she is in season, her vulva will be swollen and if you wipe it with some white tissue you should find soem blood. her teats will also be swollen, especially the back two.

Do keep an eye on her and keep her away from other dogs, even if this means not walking her. Also, keep an eye out for pyometra around a couple of months after her season. (google pyometra if unsure) Sorry if all that seems obvious.

Totallyfloaty35 · 17/01/2010 23:01

Yes have her checked anyway,i only know its normal for mine because i couldnt work out why she was weeing everywhere, the vet pointed out she was in season and flipped her over to show me i know what to look for now.But it can sometimes be an infection, she kept licking herself recently and leaking, when i picked her up she smelt fishy and it was an infection. So check her for bad smells as well.

Disenchanted3 · 18/01/2010 11:09

Hiya, shes def in season as there blood today and her sister keeps sniffing her like 'whats going on here then?!'

glad you know now

frostyfingers · 18/01/2010 14:18

3 weeks is the usual time, but they are around their hottest at 12-18 days, so look out for trespassers!
