Snuggle Puppies - anyone have any experience with them?

Am thinking of buying a Snuggle Puppy for our new pup. They have a simulated heartbeat sound and heat packs to comfort pups through the night or when left alone.

Anyone have any experience of them? Any views - negative or positive?

Thanks!

I think they're a great idea - definitely beats the old hot water bottle and ticking clock under the blanket :0

I wish they'd been around when we got our first dog, as we felt so guilty taking her away from all her brothers and sisters and leaving her to sleep on her own (especially as they always sleep cuddled up). Luckily when we got our second dog, she had her own real life snuggle puppy to keep her company!

Thanks Mrs L.

I thought it would be a good thing to buy - made sense to me, especially as we are intending to leave her in the kitchen in her crate for night times rather than take her upstairs to bed with us.

The reason for this is that our cats have always slept on our bed. I have done masses of reading and apparently it is essential to not disturb the regular routine and habits of existing pets. We had also decided that the dog shouldn't be upstairs anyway and it would give the cats a much needed sanctuary (they spend their days lounging around on the landing or stairs ).

I haven't use done an dcertainly don'yt see the harm in it, but it's probably something you could easily manage without if you wanted to. Of course, if you want one, that is entirely up to you! :remebers fondly all the stuff we bought for our first puppy:

We get all our new owners to leave a hot water bottle cover, (fluffy/animal kind) a blanket and a soft toy if possible with us for a few weeks so it can pick up the smells of the litter. I then suggest the arm puppy with all of that and leave the radio on quietly. Not one of our puppies have cried in it's new home on the first night.

Like I said though, no reason to to buy one if you want to. Do ask the breeder to leave a couple of things with her if she hasn't already suggested it though.

Thanks Midori.

That's a great idea about taking something to the breeder for Ruby to get used to. It's a 2 hour round trip but I think it will be worth it. I feel so anxious for her - its such a massive step for them. Thankfully, Breeder is as dog-mad as we are so unlikely to think we are a bit loopy for suggesting it

I have asked the breeder if she would let me have even just a small piece of the bedding they have used for the litter - a small reminder for Ruby to act as a comfort. Having said that, will that confuse them? Will it make them pine more for their siblings/mama?

Most breeders will give you a small piece of the bedding if you ask for it anyway, but if she allows you to take a soft toy or blanket (do tell her you won't mind if it comes back mucky as long as it smells of Mum and the litter, puppies can be filthy! ) that can be left with the litter, you can use that instead of the bedding the breeder has. I fin dit better for people to leave their own because then it is something they like and when they do wash it, puppy can still have the same thing and it is also bigger than a piece of beeding that I have had to split between 8 or 10 puppies.

She won't think you're mad at all and will be glad you asked I suspect as it shows you have been doing your research.

What date do you collect her? Are you going to see her again first?

tulpe · 17/01/2010 20:52

okay, am liking the taking a blanket to breeder idea a lot. Will email her and arrange a time.

We collect her on 8 Feb. We weren't going to see her again as we are away from 31 Jan to 7 Feb but I think it would be a good idea. I can drop off the blanket at the same time and have another sneaky snuggle with my girl

midori1999 · 17/01/2010 22:40

Bella32 · 18/01/2010 09:46

Is this your first, Midori (baby, that is)?

midori1999 · 18/01/2010 10:01

Lo, no it's my fourth, so the noveltly wore off ages ago....

I prefer dogs to people, including children, but that doesn't mean I don't like or love my children (otherwise why would I be having another?!) or put the children first (marginally... ) Husbands ont he other hand, come second....

Bella32 · 18/01/2010 10:04

Arf. Agree re dogs v people

midori1999 · 18/01/2010 10:10

oops, that was meant to be 'doesn't mean I don't put the children first'... was looking bad then...

Bella32 · 18/01/2010 12:34

You'll have heard of Freud then, Midori?
