flyball me thinks then!

SleighGirl · 16/01/2010 18:36

My friends HUGE flat coat retriever (I was gob smacked when she said he was a retriever) went to do flyball. Only lasted 2 weeks because he realised you could cut around the back and get a ball out of the machine instead of running after it

He is a ball obsessed dog though! (and my friend was a dog trainer!)

minimu · 16/01/2010 18:40

Both!

My labs do both

I love agility more but they love flyball.

Flyball one dog is rubbish but has fun, the other one is ok but can not keep up with the collies but is fab at catching balls.

I personally prefer the bond formed from agility and it is (in my opinion only) more challenging for the dogs. Also they can hold their own with other breeds well so if you get the bug and start competing there is more opportunity again in my opinion. Certainly there are more grades at agility and veteran or allsort classes that have lower jumps if a heavy lab finds it hard (I doubt it somehow!)

My collies do both and obviously get to a higher standard then the labs but the labs smile all the way around the courses.

my yellow lab second row

Thanks, all!

Minimu - how did I guess you'd say both? What a handsome boy you have

Hmm - I suppose I should really try both then? I reckon Dobe girl can give those collies a run for their money, you know Lab boy would, I think, be more interested in the agility but I suppose we
won't know until we've tried it....

How's your lurcher doing, btw, morethan?

morethanyoubargainfor · 17/01/2010 08:39

lurcher is fine thanks bella, strangely enough since i mentioned the vets he hasn't coughed once! and he has done lots of flat out running, so who knows!

Also my curly is now finally allowed out for lead walk only for 10 mins per day, so he is happy but very tired-slept all day friday after 5 mins sniffing on the rec! . think it might be a while until he can join us on our full walks.

morethanyoubargainfor · 17/01/2010 08:40

also forgot to say i hope to do agility with the striped one (brindle lurcher) some point soon. I wanted to do it with the curly one but he had other plans like a wonky leg.

Bella32 · 17/01/2010 18:42

Ooh - I love brindle lurchers

I would get him checked out though - if it was, say, his heart or anything then it would be better to get treatment started.

Keep us posted pls x
