Thought I might try this one and will gladly pay 10 quid or the jumbo sized tray if it makes a big difference. Does anyone have one? Or a better solution? Help!

Gah! He's just done it again! I hadn't even put the vaccuum away yet from clearing it up a few minutes ago

I prefer these:

here

  • they also help keep the smell in

We had several 'kickers' and that tray sadly didn;t stop them and actually stopped one using a tray!! We got the covered ones and removed the door as they would go in but not push it to come out and we put a mat in front so several times a day, unclipped the top and emptied the mat back in the box.

MikeStand · 12/01/2010 12:21

Nope - my cats have one like that and there is litter all over. We also have a lidded one and still find litter (albeit less so) outside the door. Sorry will keep an eye to see if anyone has a solution.

piratecat · 12/01/2010 12:21

yes i have the mega one with the rim (removable) for my cat from pets at home. She stil manages to get some of it over the top, as she is neurotic about cleanliness!!

you can get, for about £12, one with a cover, it's like a little house!! TBH, that prob would have been better, but the £6 is ok.

Heqet · 12/01/2010 12:22

we've got a covered one (no front flap). It's not messy at all.

mind you, our cat uses the loo as often as the tray.

RTKangaMummy · 12/01/2010 12:25

We have the one with a lid but not a flap

But the hole is smaller than the one in photo

They don't kick it out

BendyBob · 12/01/2010 12:25

Oh dear Trust cats to find a way to carry on doing what they want!

I hadn't seen a covered over box..they look like they could maybe cut down on the mess at least.

Our kitten was ok with his tray at first but it seems too small for him now he's bigger.

Mine don't kick it out - mine is the same as the photo but I had to remove the door as they didn't like it.

And I have a major kicker - she digs for hours but somehow completely fails to cover her poo in the process, so I have to quickly whip it out and flush it

The poo that is, not the cat

BendyBob · 12/01/2010 12:32

I think I'm going to look for one with a lid.

Intrigued about Heget's cat using the loo. Does he disappear in there with the newspaper to read?

Just beware if you're looking for one with a lid - some lidded ones have a very low rim at the front and they can be just as bad as uncovered ones for getting litter kicked out.

A lidded one with a relatively high rim is definitely much better at keeping litter in than your original piccie.

HTH

Thanks Bella - great tip. Yes that makes sense.

I'll buy anything that cuts down on this pile of grit that keeps appearing. Then of course the dc trundle it all over the house

bendy. No. She straddles the bowl and wees into it. Then she turns round and inspects it. If you look on my profile (when tech sorts profiles out!) you'll see a pic of her doing it.

I have yet to teach her to flush.

SleighGirl · 12/01/2010 12:42

We have a lidded one with flap, they don't kick the litter out but it still does carry out on their feet - how much depends on what kind of litter you use.

The annoying thing is that little cat is a bit thick and scratches on the sides of the litter tray trying to cover her deed up which also involved bashing agains the flap which is quite noisy, especially in the middle of the night.

BendyBob · 12/01/2010 12:45

Good lord! I've never heard of a cat doing that! I'm a mixture of awe, shock and surprise They're so clever aren't they?

Heqet · 12/01/2010 12:48

Oh yes. That's nothing though! My mum had a cat that used to get stuff out of the fridge and shut the door behind her

My mum thought it was me and my sister we were only little. What would we do with raw sausages? [boggle] It wasn't until she managed to see the cat hook a claw into the seal, open the door, grab something and bat the door shut with her arse that she stopped thinking it was us!!

nevesnana · 12/01/2010 12:49

Mine poops in the tray, takes ages to bury it. Then steps out steps back in and cleans and cleans till she's scooped it all out,[of a tray with a big rim], clean and ready for when she goes again.

Doesn't do that just for a wee tho thank God.

BendyBob · 12/01/2010 12:58

How clever!

We're very adoring atm because we've only had him 3 mths. We're all covered in scratches though. He plays quite roughly now he's bigger. He's desparate to go out looks longingly at the garden. He seems to hate the snow though and is most disgusted that it's still there.

Many thanks for the replies everyone

My old cat was a kicker. We did try a covered litter tray but he wouldn't go in it. I then got a tray with a rim (from Ikea, which was cheaper, althouh maybe not as ig as the one in the link) but he still managed to keep kicking litter out. In then end I got a cheap handheld vacuum and kept it near the tray.
