Hi. My cat Poppy, normally fit and well went very odd today for short time. She had just gone out to garden when she sat down and started pawing at floor, then sat very still with paw outstretched. DH went out to bring her in and we noticed she was dragging back legs and couldn't walk properly. Her tail also seemed to behave strangely and was flexed right back along her back, she seemed to struggle to move it. She kept trying to walk and gradually regained normal movement. Within a couple of minutes she was completely ok. She has been absolutely fine since, eating normally etc and has been jumping up onto things as normal. Has anyone any idea what could have caused this?

Hmmm that does sound strange.

if is was her hindlegs affected it could have been some sort of embolism that cut off the blood suppy the her back legs temporarily, but the hyperflexion of the teil does not really fit??

maybe some kind of fit or brain episode. perhaps give your vet a call for a chat. they may say wait and see if it happens again, but it may be advisable to take her in and get her checked out.

sorry i cant be more help but that is a strange one.

Thanks for the reply, have been reading about blood clots, seizures, strokes etc, all very worrying. Just doesn't make any sense as she's fine now, if she'd have been out and we hadn't seen her i'd be none the wiser that anything had happened.

Yes, was just about to suggest a clot. My friends cat had similar experience a couple of weeks ago. Vet administered some kind of anti-coagulant and by the end of the day puss was fine. Not shown any further signs since.

Thanks tulpe, wondering if was a clot has somehow managed to break up as she moved, restoring mobility? It all seemed to happen so quickly then was gone again. Guess i'll give vet a call and see if they think she might need anything to treat/prevent any further complications.

Could also be that she perhaps trapped a nerve which subsequently released itself. I would say probably worth taking her to vet for a check up. Just to be sure

Let us know how you get on
