Hi,

OK so i feel really bad. I came home monday to find my cat had peed all over my sofa grrr, told him off and washed everything, only to find later hed done it again, took him to the vets yesterday and he has a bladder infection, so now i feel bad.

But im now worried about cleaning it up all the time as its still leaking out of him and will do for the next day or so untill the meds kick in. Ive covered everything in plastic etc.. to try and keep things clean, but being 8 weeks PG and having a 2 and a hlaf year old DS its starting to stress me out!!

Im using gloves whenever im cleaning and disinfectant, should i be worried??

I thought it the poo you need worry about? For toxoplasmosis?

I think you should be fine, but perhaps ring some one for advise if you are worried?

nope, nothing special that can hurt you as a pregnant lady contained in cat wee.

its just horrid!

biological washing powder is good to use to clean up accidents as the enzymes in it break down the traces of urine so he wont be attracted back to that spot when he gets better.

could you not shut him in a utility room / kitchen until the meds kick in. as long as its warm and he has the neccesaries in there we wont mind for a couple of days. or use puppy housetraining pads on your furniture as they soak up the urine rather than letting it run off like plastic will.

if it gets too stressful maybe your vets will board him while he is "leaking".

good luck.

To clean try 'simple solution'. Available from pets at home. Fab liquid you put on the area including fabric sofas and carpet and it smells lovely. Will clean, remove germs and contains something that stops the animal from going in the same place again. Fab stuff.

I think I recommend it on here at least once a week. I must be due some commission from the company!!

When did you take him to the vet? Did the "leaking" start after the vet visit? I just mention it as this sounds like he may be partially blocked, and if so this can be life threatening. If you have any doubts at all about his ability to actually empty his bladder then please take him to the vet again asap - I don't mean to panic you but I would hate for anything to happen and I hadn't said something.

Hi,

Thanks for the cleaning tips, he seems to be picking up a bit today, still leaking a little but i phoned the vet last night and she said its just the after affects of the valium relaxing his bladder, it`ll stop.

Its was very painful for him to wee, thats why hes leaking but hes been on his meds now for the second day and it should start to work. (He was leaking before the vets thats why i took him) they say its stress, dont know how, nothing has changed, but she aslo said it could just be one of those things, great!!

As for the wee, ive found lots of old pillow cases and sheets to put where he tends to sleep and its been aborbing the wee nicely.

so far so good.

Thanks again for reassuring me xxx

Glad he seems to be on the mend

If he does get into the habit of peeing in a place you don't want him to, put a drop or two of eucalyptus oil either on or near the spot. Both cats and dogs hate it and won't go near it. We used this technique when my girl cat kept crapping on the front door mat (nice) and my sister has also used it to good effect when her cat kept peeing in the corner of the dining room

Ah great thanks for that xx
