Anyone else got a pukey cat?

She's driving me up the wall!!!

This only happens about once every 2 to 3 months, but basically she goes about for a week just puking all over the place! grrrr

she's 12 now and a longish (but not long) haired tortoiseshell. I took her to the vet a few years ago about it who told me that some cats are just pukey!

I thought maybe it was down to hairballs and I suppose it could be, but we've had five pukes since yesterday, one of which ds stood on and created havoc about for an hour! lol. She always chooses to be sick on my bed too and on my brand new duvet covers yesterday.

I love her really but sometimes it just drives me up the wall!

We have one! Again, it's sporadic. Happens in the week leading up to her producing an enormous furball (also on my bed).

The vet gave us this oily paste that cats adore licking which helps furballs to come out more easily. It seems to have helped.

mumhadenough · 02/01/2010 19:19

Thanks Rockin, guess what i just found, another big pile of puke with a hairball in it. Thankfully I didn't stand on it this time!

Hopefully this will be the end of this bout but I doubt it. I'll look into the paste thing though. We have only taken her to a vet twice in her whole 12 years (apart from innoculations) so I wonder if I could just phone up and ask for it. She's a really really healthy cat other than this.

Lol Riven, we've had one that did that too! Its fecking really annoying.

ours will protest piss if her litter tray needs changing but as long as I stay on top of that she's fine. If its not changed, she soon lets me know!

Oh god yes, my old cat Elvis always pukes up a nice hairball every so often usually on the sofa Grrrr, he over grooms. Drives me crazy!!

Fitzy72 · 06/01/2010 18:04

My tortie is just the same. pukes everywhere.
feeding little and often seems to help.

ClickNegg · 06/01/2010 18:05

mine cant deviate from their regular diet at ALL

somewhathorrified · 06/01/2010 20:39

One of mine likes to stuff her face then vom back into the food bowl leaving it for the other 2 cats. It's the completely nonchalant way in which she does it. The only way I've found to be rid of it is to physically remove her from the bowl prior to exploding!

mumof2teenboys · 07/01/2010 10:51

My tabby girl does this, she will gobble up a HUGE amount of food, then throw it all up wherever she happens to be sitting

She is nearly 11 and has done it all her life, my OH reckons we have got a bulimic cat.

TheChewyToffeeMum · 07/01/2010 10:54

One of ours does this - he seems to be alot better since changing him to 'indoor' cat food even though he is a thoroughly outdoor cat.

somewhathorrified · 07/01/2010 11:14

mumof2teenboys haha, must be a female tabby thing as mine that does it is a tabby too! Personally i think it's just out and out greed rather than any psychological condition.

diddl · 07/01/2010 13:26

We brush ours everyday.
And she "tells" us if she´s going to be sick.

Really odd sound.
Like a child saying "I feel ill"!!
It´s spooky-but gives us enough time to get her outside!

My cat is gobbler\puker too.

She also prefers outside water i.e rain water that has collected in some recepticle or another. Turns her nose up at clean water from a clean bowl.

I agree, cats are mad.

DontCallMeBaby · 09/01/2010 19:41

One of mine (the one on my lap right now, causing me to have to lean sideways to type on the laptop) is a gobbler/puker. If I didn't know better I'd think he'd been neglected/underfed, but we've had him from eight weeks and his brother doesn't do it. His brother does, however, eat the puke. Horrid things.

MrsL123 · 10/01/2010 10:10

We also have a bulimic cat! Her favourite trick is to stuff herself full of dry food and then have a big drink of water, which obviously causes the food to swell, so then she throws it all up again, before going back to eat more! She also does it with wet food - stuffs herself silly and then upchucks next to the bowl, before carrying on eating.

And without fail, the dog gets to it before I can clean it up. Nothing tastes better than cat puke, apparently!

jaabaar · 11/01/2010 16:02

You must make sure not to change cat food. Any change in cat food can trigger puking. E.g. change of brand etc. Even if you have the same brand the ingredients are not 100% the same from batch to batch.

I had a pukey cat and listen to this advise. I started buying Nature's best which guarantees exact same batches of food. And the problem stopped. It is expensive however you can shop online and it will be as cheap if not cheaper then Whiskas dry food.
Also the poo of the cat will smell less. worth a try as I really got fed up cleaining up mess!"

We have a pedigree Burmese who boffs up for Britain. Any minute changes to her diet and it's vomit city here. She's totally indoor cat on that dry food gubbins.

Very cute though.

TopSop · 11/01/2010 16:12

We have two that do this. One is a furball puker, the other one gobbles his food and then it all just bounces. Both Maine Coons, ergo semi-long haired. Both with sensitive digestions and on a veterinary diet with NOTHING else otherwise it impacts on the litter tray (not nice) so no furball additives for us, unfortunately.

I've always had longer-haired cats and the furballs come with the territory. I do agree that barfing on the bed is seriously unpleasant though - but I can highly recommend leather sofas, as the barf just wipes away with no traces left! unlike on the carpets....

One of these years we'll have enough cash to replace all the carpets with wooden flooring...

stealthsquiggle · 11/01/2010 16:13

Ours does the stuffing and vomming thing if she has access to more than a very small amount of dried food. She also has a special 'I am about to throw up any time now' howl which just about gives me time to hurl her out of the front door if I happen to be in the house at the time.

noddyholder · 11/01/2010 16:22

My girl cat does this too She is a semi long haired tabby too.So annoying and it comes in episodes of days at a time.Stinks aswell Ours does the pathetic cry too but I have never managed to get her out in time.
