Might be something to do with cats liking to be up high? When one of mine was weeing in the house I read a bit about cat psychology (!) and apparently they can get stressed if they don't have somewhere high they can sit. Our old moggy used to get on top of the high kitchen cupboards.

The current lot love the ds's bunk beds... and windowsills. We have a bay window at the back under the ds's bedroom and one has just worked out how to get on the little roof of the bay. So sometimes they are sitting on opposite sides of the window!

It's the height thing for sure; they feel safer at height and seem more intimidating to their enemies. We moved into a flat where a dog had lived previously and our poor cat was constantly spooked and spent her life scrambling up on top of doors!

Personally I think it is because it is usually a suntrap and nice and warm if the sun is shining in.

they have a good vantage point, too, to observe teh world.

we lived in a place with a window seat and it was Pepsi cat's fav place in the house.

i dont see why he thinks he has a hope in hell with chasing a bird on an opposite house or helping a skididng neighbours car.!

I don't know what it is about but my old cat managed to get out the window onto the ledge outside then slipped. There was an awful moment where she realized she was falling and she shrieked.

I looked up to see her clinging on by her front paws and her ok surprised face staring at me appealling for help then she vanished.
I was pregnant with DD at the time (long time ago now as she's nearly 11) and was beside myself. DH was dispatched to get her, braced himself for the worse, opened the door and she casually sauntered in, none the worse for her trip.
