Dog walking at night

What do you all do about picking up the poo at night?

I take the pup on a walk at night and its the only time I can let her off the lead and be pretty sure that she'll come back to me.
However, I have NO idea if she's pooing at night - I've not seen her do it or don't think I have but its dark.

Morally what should I do cos I CANNOT keep up with her at night. Pregnant lady Vs 6 month old CollieXSpringer pup!! lol

Carry a torch? I can't think of anything else.

Meant to add before I so stupidly pressed post.

I did yesterday go back with a poo bag ready to pick up poo but MY GOD!! There was hundreds of em and I know it aint all my dog cos there are houses that back onto the field and one guy lets his 2 dogs onto field as though its a backyard and then 1/2 hr later lets em back in.

A torch might work - field is open enough that i'd be able to see her I think.

I have a little mini LED torch on my keyring and I hover while my dog's pooing before using the torch to find my exact target
Could never let them off lead in the dark, though - esp a pup - you're very brave.

Its the only time I can Bella. If I do it during the day she runs off up the hill out of sight!! lol Birds flying places are way more interesting than my boring old treats!! lol

I need to get her excersised too or she'd drive me insane.

Keep her on the lead until she has pooed pick up poo and then let her run free.

LuckySalem · 21/12/2009 19:53

I'll try that tonight. Never noticed her toilet on the lead but it could be cos she's never had the chance (she's been out in the backyard before her morning walk) so I'll see what she does tonight.

Cheers

or get one of those lights that fix onto their collars. When it has stopped for any amount of time you know that she is doing her thing.

LuckySalem · 22/12/2009 12:11

Oh didn't know they did those. Thats a REALLY good idea. Hmm will have a nose. I've already asked for some wellies and a torch for xmas!! will ask for one of those too!!

or a refective collar. pets at home stocks them.

SeaGreen · 09/01/2010 21:29

oops reflective!

We got some flashing collars from pets at home and they're great. We have two completely black labs, so they're impossible to spot at night without them! They have three flashing modes, and are apparently visible from a mile away. Ours are bright pink but they also come in yellow. I think they were about £9 each and come with the battery. The good thing is, the flashing bit takes up half of the collar, it's not just a tiny flashing light like some of them have, which are easily hidden if the dog is running away from you or is in the bushes. The battery/switch bit is also very slimline so it isn't uncomfortable to wear. They're probably the best thing we've ever bought for the dogs, everyone comments on them!
