Has anyone successfully introduced a baby boy guinea pig to an older male?

Got one male guinea pig who is 8 months and placid. He's lived with a friend before but friend died and so for the last few months has just lived with a rabbit (who is unable to live with other rabbits as he's mean - but fine with gp!)

As it's turned colder i've brought him in to live but the indoor cage is not big enough for the rabbit so he is now on his own. Really want him to have a piggy friend but read it is tricky to introduce males.

Anyone done it? All advice welcome.

replied on the other thread ...

it went fine when I introduced a 9 week to my 8month old.

A bit of squeaking and chasing from the small pigloo (the baby kicked the bigger one out!) but now I've upgraded their covered space, they really get along...

All I did was clean the cage (indoor one) and put them both in there and they found each other

There was some squeaking and "my head is higher than your head" business but not much at all

I bought a 8wk old baby boy (dilbert) to go with Smartie my 3yr old rescue pig - clean ed out the cage and popped him in, little dilbert just followed him round aimlessly, think he wanted a cuddle, never had any trouble!

I've done a few introductions over the years (male and female). Some piggies have been fine, the boys tried to kill each other for a few weeks (I got bitten when I separated them) and I couldn't leave them on their own but they grew to love each other in the end . You might need to have 2 separate homes for a while and them to have supervised visits until they decide they like each other.

Oh brilliant! Thank you!

I've got an outdoor hutch, an indoor cage and an outdoor run so plenty of places to put them and do gradual introductions if needs be. Fingers crossed that cos the baby will be so little they might just love each other from the start! I'm sure George has a strong mummy instinct!
