Any RSPCA or ex RSPCA people out there or anyone who knows their policies please?

I know that at least one Pets poster is an ex RSPCA inspector, I just can't for the life of me remember who!

If there is anyone out there who is, please can you advise me? I'm told by the RSPCA HQ that their inspectors are licensed to carry .32 pistols but what I CAN'T seem to find out is whether this is ALL inspectors or just some.

The information I have on this is ambiguous and I find it hard to believe that ALL inspectors are licensed to use a pistol... does anyone know anny more on this please?

I used to work for the RSPCA. I left some years ago. At that time not all Inspectors are licensed to carry weapons - they have to go thru some extremely rigorous training outside of the society in order to obtain their license and this license is regularly renewed by virtue of further training. You need to contact the RSPCA HQ again - don't bother with the normal hotline number - ring their offices in Sussex.

Thanks Whispy. I thought that not all inspectors could possibly be weapons trained ad licensed - too expensive and problematic! I've emailed the main addy and the CEO but have been warned I might wait weeks for an aswer, if I get one at all, so I'll call Sussex too.

Much obliged.

You want to get in touch with Tim Wass who is the Chief Officer Inspectorate and address it to their HQ in Sussex. He is the head of all the Inspectorate. He is currently on tv in their adverts begging for donations.....

I can remember whenever an animal needed shooting - say, for example, a deer with a leg hanging off or something similar, and we asked an Inspector to attend thinking perhaps the deer was down and unable to get up but was found to be managing to get around on 3 legs, if that Inspector did not have a gun on him and no license he would have to sit and wait until such time as we could get a licensed and weapon holding Inspector out to him/her or we would call the Police. I'm pretty sure not all Inspectors, even now, carry weapons but if you don't get a reply from HQ let me know cos I am still in touch/friends with a few Inspectors who still work for them.
