Dos and don'ts of having a puppy

We have put a reservation on a beautiful little four day old Cocker Spaniel puppy !

So in just under three months we are going to have a bouncing puppy as a new member of our family!!!

I am really interested to know - what are the real dos and don'ts of owning and training a puppy?

(We live in an apartment - Any specific advice on apartment living with a dog will be interesting but I am hoping all you lovely mners have lots of things to tell me about all sorts of very useful doggy things!)

  • Thank you very much, any ideas mean a lot!

Thanks for the link Teafortwo

Soupdragon, I don't know what the grooming requirements are, but Cockers are in the 'considerable' group on the KC site and it put me off. I don't mind daily brushing, but don't want the expense of 'regular' professional trimming.

I think I might be confusing American Cockers with English Cockers.

Dill is lovely soupy

If I kiss him, he may chew my nose off. He is utterly adorable though. Especially when he runs and his ears flap

Perhaps they only require "considerable grooming" if you're going to show them. I'm planning on mine getting muddy (hence the mud colourway!)
