Has anyone been a "PUPPY WALKER" for GUIDE DOG PUPPIES?

Hello everyone

We are thinking of becoming "puppy walkers" for Guide dog puppies

They come to live with us from a tiny puppy about 6 weeks old and we then teach it and socialize it until it leaves us at 12 to 14 months old to go to the next stage of its training

Has anyone done it?

DH has had labradors all his life and I used to have a Perinean Mountain dog as a child. So we are both used to dogs etc.

Our next puppy hopefully arrives just after she leaves ~ we have asked for a ½ sister with the same dad but that hasn't been confirmed yet as the Mum isn't due until end of this month

I thought I would update this thread to say that our 1st puppy went to "big school" a couple of weeks ago to start the next stage of her training Sad

It was horrible having her leave us and we still miss her Sad

We now do have her half sister who is also black Smile she is now 8½ weeks

Her Mum is a yellow Golden Retriever/Labrador cross and her dad is a black lab {and is same dad as no 1 puppy}

Hi please could you help me with a question.
On the Guide Dog webpage it says;Puppy walking schemes do not operate in all areas of the country therefore please be aware of this when applying to save undue disappointment. Please contact the Volunteering Office to see if the schemes operate in your area.
I can't seem to find out much more. I live in Abergavenny and there is nothing to do with Guide Dogs in Abergavenny can you offer any info?

My cousin did this once two or three years ago. His puppy proved to be a bit difficult to train and had terrible recall. After the year was up it went off to Guide Dog School and FAILED! That could just be that the dog was unsuitable, not a reflection on my cousin's training (I hope). I think one of their neighbours adopted it after that.
