Our 19 month old setter needed grass seeds removed from his armpits and underwent a sedation to do it - 4 weeks ago.
Since then he has been lethargic - eating, drinking and pooing fine.
The lethargy has gradually got worse and worse til now he doesn't want to go out other than to wee and poo. He won't wee in the garden so we have to go to the fields, this is ok as they are less than 100m away. He used to walk upwards of 5 miles a day, or rather I did and he ran miles more. He's now doing just the distance to the field.
He has been to the vets constantly in this time, they have been great and have done every test they can - bloods, ecgs, x-rays, heart scan, ultrasound. The first two ecgs showed a faulty heart beat every 5 beats but this has since been clear. All the tests besides the ECG have been normal. They think there is nothing wrong with heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, no infections because blood levels are normal. They have done every test with the dog awake i.e. not under aneastetic.(sp?)
The next step is a MRI and spinal tap to see whether there is something wrong with his brain. Because this involves an aneastetic the vets are referring him for a second opinion first, on Monday.
Sorry this is so long and if you have managed to make it this far, I'd welcome any ideas. I am under the impression that if they find a tumour on his brain there is nothing they can do.
Help... I'm obviously pretty upset. He is my constant companion and I have already lost a dog this year (through old age) and really can't cope with losing this one as well.
Anyone got any ideas or have experienced this or anything similar?
