Our cat has gone missing and I am so so upset

I am so upset, our cat has gone missing today. He is always waiting for his breakfast at about 6.30am and he just hasn't come home today at all, I have called and called for him but he hasn't appeared. He went missing once before about 2 years ago for 4 days and I was totally distraught. We live in London so it's not like the country where he could have just wandered off a bit far. I just so desperately want him to come home today.

He might have just had an exciting night out and be sleeping somewhere. Don't panic just yet.

They are always a worry this time of year - lots of baby birds to chase, mild weather makes them go off further and for longer - one of mine roams far and wide and I panic on a regular basis. Another of mine disappeared once for 8 days one Spring - I contacted my local paper and they ran a story and pic. It turned out he must have been chased and got a bit lost. He was only a couple of streets away, living rough in a back garden and going in through someone's catflap to eat at night.

So, there is hope and to lose them for a day or two at this time of year is not necessarily unusual. You could put posters up locally, in case he is accidentally got locked in a shed. Best time to go looking for them is at dawn, when there are very few people about - if he is scared, he is more likely to come out then - and cats do tend to go on the prowl at dawn.

Have you checked sheds, etc in case he is stuck somewhere? Phoned the vet in case he has been handed in? Is he micro-chipped?

I hope he comes home soon. I lost mine once and the relief when she came home was indescribable.

I lost one of mine a few weeks ago and eventually found the poor mite locked in the garage, felt very guilty. Hopefully he will turn up soon, he hasn't been missing that long yet.

Yes he has been microchipped and he has a collar on with his name on it, I really hope he comes home tonight for supper. I just think in London there aren't really things for him to hunt around here like mice etc. I have reported him to Battersea and checked with the local RSPCA. I know I am getting into a panic and he has only been missing today but it is just so unusual for him to not come home for food.

Have you tried doing a local door to door? Mine got out the front a few months ago and I went door knocking after she had been missing all day and I was frantic (she is normally too lazy to go further than the back garden). A bloke 3 days down found her sitting on the wall by his front door an hour later.

Hope he turns up soon.

Hi, I do feel for you. My "baby" went missing for 8 days. We were in SW London. Please don't lose hope. We contacted local vets, the microchip people and put leaflets through doors in our street. He then juts turned up after 8 days.

Even though you've rung the RSPCA and Battersea, ring all the local vets too. Then I would door knock. So many times cats are just shut up somewhere, sheds, garages etc. And there are plenty of things for him to hunt and play with out there so don't worry just yet.

He now hasn't come home for supper either and he is always in by now for food - I've knocked on neighbours doors and tomorrow night will put leaflets through everyone's doors in the street. I just feel so upset and unhappy. I really want to see him. Any positive stories about cats coming home again would be great please!

Mine came home after 7 hours once.

She went out of the back door and came back at the front, soaking wet. I got my best bath towel to rub her dry.

Wait until it is all quiet later and call him.

My cat went missing for several days at one time. She NEVER wandered anywhere and I was distraught.

I put up a few notices and had a call from our local vicar who only lived a few hundred yards away. Apparently Cat had been living in her garden all the time, enjoying the peace and quiet and the sunshine....

And then she went missing last year while we were away. My PILS felt so guilty (they were on Cat duty)- but again, she was just round the corner, living the high life and completely uncaring of our distress.

Don't be too upset. There are loads of mice etc in London to chase! He'll be back soon, I'm sure.

Was going to chip in about my cat, he did the same thing, just didn't turn up for breakfast, then dinner... phoned the vets, prepared to do leaflets, then at 2am the next morning he comes in miaowing for all he's worth, he was fine worn out though, he slept ALL day (I know cats sleep a lot but I mean ALL day) so goodness knows what he got up to.

am really pleased. Mine did this this time last year, and also did it a second time, just the other week. i think it's def the mice and shrews and sunshine that keeps them out. They are having a lovely time. doesn't stop allsorts going thru your mind tho, esp when it's not a regualr thing they do.

Thanks guys, i'm so pleased to see him - I've explained to him how naughty he has been and how upset it made me, I think he took as much notice of me as our 2 year old does, which is none!!!
