How much do you think it should cost to install a cat-flap?

We've bought one ready to go in and I was wondering how much to allow for installation.

do it yourself?

My hubbies putting my dog/cat flap in this afternoon. Find someone handy with a jigsaw and ask them

PestoMonster · 17/06/2009 14:44

DH is not very good at too busy for that sort of thing , and we will have a carpenter here tomorrow in relation to our current extension which is underway. Thinking of hi-jacking him you see!

good idea, ideally carpenter should charge minimal amount if theya re doing other work anyway.

Washersaurus · 17/06/2009 14:47

I'm sure if you ask him nicely it won't cost much. You could do it yourself though - there is a template in with the catflap, you just need to stick it up and cut!

stripeypineapple · 17/06/2009 14:48

I paid a handy man £30 to fit ours. That was his standard charge for an hours work.

Joolsiam · 17/06/2009 14:50

I'm sure it would only take a carpenter 15 mins to fit - cost should be negligible

I have the same problem with a DP that is "too busy" !! We've just had workmen in doing up our bathroom and I've had them putting up pictures, shelves, hooks, hanging basket brackets - getting it all in whilst I have access to someone capable !!

hatwoman · 17/06/2009 14:51

dh put ours in - and it really isn;t hard - because the cat flap covers any edges to the hole it doesn't need to be remotely neat. can you just offer to "round up" his bill for the other work?

hatwoman · 17/06/2009 14:52

£30 and an hour's work sounds about right to me.

PestoMonster · 17/06/2009 15:55

Thanks all. Very helpful. He will probably just include it with all the other works he has to do here. Can't wait until I don't have to keep letting the cat in and out all the time

Ahh the joy of cat flaps and the little gifts they can bring in and leave decomposing behind your boots

PestoMonster · 17/06/2009 16:03

Ah, I'd forgotten about those

Great name btw Fruitshoots
